Monthly Post & CR Meme #26: Small Start
MONTHLY POST
- Hey Dreamers - apologies for the radio silence and delays following the back end of the last Disturbance! Based on feedback (and, let's be real, Observable Vibes), it sounds like a lot of folks - myself included - were feeling just a little burned out. So thank you all for your patience, your understanding, and your continued commitment to BD. You guys are the reason this game is still going strong!
That said, I know it's been a minute, so to get everyone caught back up, you'll find a writeup on the aftermath of the Anniversary Disturbance event below! That'll fill in the blanks on what's been happening in the world of BD during our unintentional little break.
In terms of game pacing, I'm planning to ease us back into the rhythm of things. The next two months will be event-free, so everyone has time to breathe, get their footing, and catch up on CR. To help with that, July's CR Planning Meme will be a handwaved CR meme, so you can plot out what your characters got up to and set the stage for new interactions!
After that, month three will feature a light Torment Hunt Event to warm everyone back up, and come November, we'll be diving headfirst back into metaplot developments and a few major shake-ups to the BD status quo. Exciting times ahead!
As for those promised world state changes - those will be rolling out in next month's writeup, so stay tuned. Baby steps!
Thanks again for your patience, your support, and all the love you've shown for this weird little dream game. You're the best.
HANDWAVED CR
- Dreamers Tycoon, Hanako, LLEN, and Sage accompanied the Figment most of you know as Dreamer Miraidon into the heart of the Disturbance, where they came face to face with none other than Professor Turo - the so-called "true" Dreamer Miraidon from the Waking World. Spoiler alert: turns out he's kind of an asshole. After revealing his pretty concerning plans to meddle with the Disturbance's encroachment on reality, Turo forcibly merged with the Figment and engaged the Boss Combat team in battle.
Things took a shocking turn when, mid-fight, the Dream Sphere flickered away entirely, replaced by the Waking World - specifically, the DU lobby - with everyone present appearing in their real-world bodies... except for Turo, still Dream-transformed. Whatever experiments he's been running clearly worked, giving him the ability to breach the barrier between Dream and reality.
The group rejected Turo's offer to merge both worlds, destroyed the unstable machinery holding it all together, and... in the resulting collapse, Turo escaped. Everyone was forcibly ejected from the Disturbance - waking up not in their beds, but still in the Dream Sphere lobby. As you can imagine, There Was Chaos.
Since then, the DU has been working overtime trying to make sense of it all. Everyone involved - especially the boss fight team - has been interviewed extensively (thanks for cooperating!). Things in the Dream Sphere went eerily quiet afterward - almost no Torments, no Nightmares... too quiet.
Things remain seemingly peaceful until July 10th, and "Turo" finally returns to reality... except it's actually our friend, the Figment, now inhabiting Turo's body after their unstable fusion. The Professor himself seems to still be at large in the Dream Sphere and with activity levels in the DS now returning to their normal levels, it seems like the time is finally right for everyone to begin investigating once more.
WORLD UPDATES
- July is the absolute peak of summer in Yumemigaoka, which means one thing - it's hot, hot, hot outside and there's no escaping it! The first two weeks of the month are basically a trial by sun, with minimal cloud cover and temperatures regularly soaring past 30c. Step outside for more than five minutes and you're basically roasting alive. A massive thunderstorm rolls in on the 17th, kicking off two straight days of torrential rain, lightning, and gusty winds that finally break the relentless heat. But as always, there's a catch - after the storm passes in the late hours of the 18th, the clouds stick around, blanketing the city in thick humidity and daily showers for the rest of the month. So yes, the sun is no longer a deadly laser, but everything is now hot, soggy and clammy so it's up to you which is worse.
Over in the Dream Sphere, the weather's not much better. There's a steady increase in rain and sinister thunderstorms, with the Vale of Sorrow somehow managing to get even more miserably flooded than usual. The typically beachy Facet Lagoon is practically unbearable thanks to the unbearable humidity, and yes, Fury Peak is still throwing a tantrum, with smoke, minor eruptions, and ash clouds drifting over other dreams.
