Beautiful Dreamer Has Closed
GAME CLOSURE
- Hey Dreamers! I wanted to take a moment to check back in and be honest with you all about where things have landed since my last announcement.
When I first shared plans for endgame, my intent was very much to guide BD toward a proper conclusion. However, in the weeks following that post it became clear that even with suspended AC and looser mechanics, the level of activity just wasn't there to sustainably support that kind of structured endgame. A lot of folks (myself very much included!) were feeling burned out, so I decided to take a step back over the holidays and reassess with a clearer head.
After doing that, I think it's pretty evident that the originally planned endgame roadmap just doesn't suit the current playerbase as it stands. Rather than forcing something that isn't quite working, my plan now is to leave Beautiful Dreamer standing open as a sandbox for anyone who wants to continue playing. Alongside this, I've put together and released a tidied-up version of my metaplot plans, which you can find below.
I'm genuinely sorry that I'm not able to wrap things up in the way I originally hoped to. I know what a bummer it is when a story-heavy game doesn't get a chance to play out its conclusion and that's not something I ever wanted for BD. I hope that sharing the metaplot document helps fill in some of those gaps and I'm more than happy to answer questions if there's still anything you're curious about.
I've told some version of this sappy story before, but it bears repeating: Beautiful Dreamer was quite literally a dream project of mine for years before I ever ran it. The amount of love, enthusiasm and engagement that players consistently poured into this game and its setting was more than any mod could reasonably ask for. Really, at the end of the day, all that matters is that you had fun here and I hope that's the case for everyone who played here.
