Monthly Post & CR Meme #3: When you wish upon a star...
MONTHLY POST
- Happy July, Dreamers! We hope everyone had a good Pride month both OOCly and in game! Before moving onto the IC recap, here's the usual OOC update tidbits for everyone to snack on:
- ⧖ AC had been adjusted! Going forward, our AC requirements will be 10 comments across at least 2 threads, capping out at 3. There will no longer be a comment minimum on AC threads - rather, we'll be looking at total overall comments. This change was made both to make things easier to parse for players and also uh me when I'm processing AC but also because we feel this better suits the pace the game has settled into. As this decision was made near the end of last month, we have run June's AC with these changes in mind and applied those standards retroactively. Comment count minimums for bonus threads, Excursions and Hunts, etc will remain the same but we will be sweeping pages and mod response templates over the next few days to update any relevant wording. Let us know if we missed any spots!
⧖ i cannot for the life of me remember if I formally mentioned this elsewhere but: the franchise cap is now five characters instead of four! While talking about it, we decided four felt like a bit of an awkward number and that five accomidated the average size of a 'core' series cast a bit better.
⧖ The NPCs & Notable Figures page went up in the first half of last month! Make sure to give it an eyeball now and then to keep up with who's who in the world of Beautiful Dreamer - or even submit some famous folks yourself!
⧖ Additionally, the Monthly Event & Player Plot Submissions page is now up! You can toss in some cool things you'd like to see happen around Yumemigaoka or even suggest a full-scale monthly plot of your own!
That's all for OOC updates! The only other thing to note is that as of our last app round, we are officially getting within spitting distance of our player cap!!! Insane!!! We will be keeping an eye on apps and drops over the next month and depending on how close we get to that magic number, we will make an announcement at the end of the next app round as to how we plan to handle those spicy final slots. Keep an eye out!

EVENT PREVIEW
- Following the sighting of Dreamer Crimson, the DU is in a bit of chaos. The reappearance of a Dreamer so long after a full disappearance into the Dream Sphere is more or less unheard of and results in many Experienced Dreamers and DU staff being pulled in to work overtime and investigate this new phenomenon. Nobody knows quite what happened or how, but the DU – and Angelica in particular – are determined to make it happen again.
Outside of the DU, other things seem to be stirring in the Dream Sphere. Tanabata is rolling around and those who've been Dreamers long enough will know that the festival sometimes has odd effects on the Dream Sphere; that many high hopes and that much intense wishing eventually has ripples that extend far out beyond the Waking World. Dreamers of the magical and regular variety may find themselves having reoccurring dreams of a beautiful stardust river and a glittering tree weighed down with wish tags. Each time you go back to that place in your sleep it becomes more and more real until it feels like you could almost step into it for real... but while that's certainly possible for Dreamers, regular people can't do that.

WORLD UPDATES
- Looking forward to more sunshine? Unfortunately, after the damp but sunny weather everyone was graced with in June, July goes right back to damp and dismal. While that might match the mood for some – final exams are coming up at the end of the month, after all – it makes a poor match for the Tanabata festival due to be held on the 7th!
As expected of a Yumemigaoka summer, July's weather is miserably humid and damp with high temperatures and a frankly unreasonable around of rain. Showers are more or lest constant, with a persistent drizzle occurring at pretty much every moment of the day and more serious downpours frequently breaking out just to ruin your day. In particular, the first two weeks of the month will see some extremely heavy rain, including thunderstorms, that results in some flooding. Unfortunately for Orihime and Hikoboshi, it's going to be a damp Tanabata this year!
!WORLD EVENTS
⧖ All Month: Following Zeke, Sam, Connor and Ben's encounter with Dreamer Crimson, the DU puts out an official notice summarizing the event and imploring Dreamers who have any further information to report directly to the DU. Continued investigation into the matter is requested of Experienced Dreamers who are encouraged to take additional Excursions out into the Dream Sphere in hopes of locating Crimson once again.
⧖ July 1st - July 6th: In anticipation of Tanabata, a number of stores around the city are now selling the coloured paper for tanzaku and small cuttings of bamboo so you can hang wishes in the privacy of your own home. In addition, shrines, shopping malls and schools around the city will have wish trees for people to hang their wishes.
⧖ July 2nd - July 5th: A city-wide thunderstorm on top of the already torrential rain causes public transit havoc and several trainlines and bus routes are forced to shut down due to minor flash floods. F–free day off work and school, yay...?!
⧖ July 7th: It's Tanabata, the star-crossed lovers' holiday. There will be a festival held at Hikawa Shrine and the event mingle post will go up on this date - since the event this month crosses over with Tanabata, it's going up a little early!
⧖ July 15th: Torment Hunt Bounty! An aggressive Torment Horde spawned by rage and frustration have appeared in Fury Peak. They take the form of humanoid silhouettes formed from pure flame with jagged mouths and sharpened teeth. This is a High Risk bounty open to all Dreamers and multiple groups of characters can tackle this challenge. As a reward, characters who successfully clear this bounty will receive double points on rewards associated with this Torment Hunt!
⧖ July 17th - July 19th: It's time for final exams! Yes, they'll be a total slog but keep your chin up because once they end...
⧖ July 20th - August 31st: IT'S SUMMER VACATION, BABEY! Students have a whopping six weeks of summer vacation to enjoy before the start of the next term. Just make sure not to forget your summer homework!

About: Cid's main concerns in life are avoiding unnecessary hassle and doing Cool Shit. Cool Shit more valued than hassle avoided (with cash money coming in third). He also values a good story far and away beyond silly things like "reality", but is aware most people don't see things that way and tries to avoid tripping too many "reality check this guy" alarms.

AU-Cid, specifically, believes that he is his dead elder brother reborn, and that he's combatting a nightmare-creating cult in the Dream Sphere that managed to kill him off in the Waking World once already. While a small part of him sorta-kinda remembers this is stuff he himself invented, he's intentionally buried that knowledge pretty deep because he prefers the story he came up with to reality.
Short Term & Long Term Plans:
Short term, I'd like to tie him to somebody within the setting a bit more maybe?
Also, if anyone's playing a Dreamer who'd been active in the Dream Sphere and/or DU about 3 years back, I'm interested in people who may have met or even worked with Cid's older brother Minoru/Dreamer Dark Prince. Cid's Dreamer form looks eerily similar to Dark Prince, so some deja vu could be warranted if they'd seen Dark Prince once or twice.
Long term, I'm hoping for Cid to try to craft a "solid coworker relationship" that maybe ends up becoming actual friendship?? Cid hasn't really done that before, outside of Minoru.

Canon: Sakura Quest
About: Maki works as IT support and general odd jobs at the DU, as well as having a side gig with the tourism department. Originally, she'd moved to the big city to chase her dream of being an actress. She worked her way up to bit parts, sometimes in popular series, and was just starting to get somewhere up until she was brought onto a variety show by her agency and scuttled it all by chickening out of eating a bug on camera. Her career tanked, and she now spends her time giving jaded tough-love advice and taking depression naps in the breakroom.
Short Term & Long Term Plans: Maki mainly shows up at the DU head office and at events around the city for work, so she's easy to find if you need her. So far I'm aiming to have her a constant presence who can help people when they come to her, while I work on apping a second.
Desired CR: Looking for people to give advice to, fellow burned-out adults, people who knew her when she worked in the entertainment business, people who knew her from one of the many, many side gigs she worked to pay her bills back when she was acting, people coming to her for advice, maybe even people to try to make her smile and believe in her own dreams again. Though that'll take some doing.

Introduction: HI. So I apped an OC Koharu but she didn't fit what I was looking for so I dropped her and decided to skew for an older character. Still all about the old school 80s anime, deep in Transformers obsession hell, and will ramble about OCs and sports on my plurk. Let me know who you are before adding please.
Character Name: Miyako Saitou
Canon: Oshi No Ko
About: Miyako is a 40-ish year old CEO of Web of Dreams Productions! This talent management agency focuses on internet celebrities and influencers, majority of which happen to be Dreamers, so she moved to Yumemigaoka to better work with them. She is Ai Hoshino's foster/adoptive mom basically, and they are rebuilding their estranged relationship from Ai moving away all those years ago.
Miyako is also secretly a Dreamer herself, but she went through a very traumatic experience that took most of her childhood memories and left her unwilling to ever go into the Dream Sphere like that again. She offer advice and a listening ear to young Dreamers but is a bit biased about how she thinks it's not very safe for kids and teens to be doing.
Short Term & Long Term Plans: Short term plans are Miyako working with her clients, maybe getting some new clients, and finding her some acquaintances around her own age. Long term plans are me pushing Miyako more and more into the Dreamer's culture in the Waking World until she finally has to acknowledge she's been running from this part of herself for two decades. And maybe she ends up in the Dream Sphere to protect someone she cares about because of it.
Desired CR: ALL CR. People for her to mentor/manage for Web of Dreams, adults she can get close to and confide in. Maybe even some people who vaguely remember Dreamer Spinneret from all those years ago? Even people for her to butt heads with about how much or little kids/teens should be involved in Dreamer business and the DU.

Canon: Bungou to Alchemist
About: Ango used to be a well-regarded writer, but his antics have gotten him blacklisted from the industry... so now he's a newbie Dreamer with a minimum wage job at the DU and a halfassed attitude to match it. He's a chaotic hot mess who makes bad choices.
Short Term & Long Term Plans: In the short term, lots of dumb adventures and shenanigans. In the long term, I want Ango to get his creative spark back and return to being a writer. He's gradually re-learning how to Give A Shit about life.
Desired CR:
Now that Ango has a job, he's looking for a place to live. Which means that a terrible neighbor is coming soon to an apartment complex near you! He's the kind of neighbor who steals your wifi, puts out 15 bag of garbage on recycling day (when he bothers to take it out at all), borrows your stuff and never gives it back, and hides on your balcony every time police sirens go by. Anybody want to live near a human raccoon?
Ango's going to stumble across an outlying location populated by massive glowing Torments inspired by the huge, elaborately constructed demon lanterns of northern Japan's wild summer festivals. Anybody want to come explore a spooky old-fashioned town full of towering monsters? Since it's an unofficial exploration, we can decide how well/poorly things go!

About: Cinnabar is a shy, sulky high schooler who hates being a Dreamer. While their poisonous mercury-based powers make them a powerhouse in combat, they have poor control over their abilities, which can make them a danger to other Dreamers.
Short Term & Long Term Plans: In the short term, this socially awkward cinnamon roll needs friiiiiiends. In the long term, things will probably go badly!

Since it's exam season, Shinsha will be providing after-school tutoring at Promised Morning Academy. As a member of the Gardening Club, they're also sharing the first vegetables of the season from the school's greenhouse. Whoa, those peppers are surprisingly spicy...

Introduction: Hi! It's still me, your local triangle man. Up until now I was playing Ricky. "Who?" Yeah, that's why I dropped her in favor of someone whose muse is stronger for me.
Character Name: Anna Caldwell aka Arianna Lagaard (Arianna Caledonia in canon)
Canon: Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight
About: So, it turns out Arianna, Princess of Lagaard, has just awakened as a Dreamer. This wouldn't be a problem, except there's a weird cult that thinks her great-aunt was Magical Girl Jesus or something and had already been eyeing Arianna as a possible reincarnation/second coming/etc. and this is exactly the sort of thing they would go nuts about. So Arianna has stopped making public appearances "for personal reasons," and meanwhile, COMPLETELY UNRELATEDLY, a nice young woman named Anna Caldwell has appeared in Yumemigaoka at what is an incredibly awkward moment in school terms. She's here to live as a Perfectly Ordinary Dreamer and get training from the Best Dreamer Union Which Can 100% Keep People Safe and do normal things like go to school (briefly) and work part-time and live in an apartment and definitely not stand out in any way.
Short Term & Long Term Plans: Specific plans are fake, but I do have one goal which is for people to figure out Arianna's real identity on a regular basis. If we get to BD's first anniversary and less than half the cast knows there's a princess running around then I have failed. She'll vaguely have figuring out her predecessor's deal on her radar, but given that she's on the wrong side of the world I don't know that that'll really go anywhere.
Desired CR: ALL THE CR! In particular, some nonzero number of people are aware of Anna's status as Arianna via having been part of the whole "secret princess" plan and I am open to establishing who they are (or aren't, as the case may be). But honestly I really do want ALL THE CR and I am Taking Suggestions.

About: illya is just about as fresh of a dreamer as you can get! since she only had her awakening so recently, she's still a little overwhelmed by the entire thing, and she's still unsure of whether to join the dream union or not.. on the one hand, she'd like to be helpful and do the right thing, but on the other hand.. it's scary?? help??
other than that, she's just about your typical 13 year old! a little more on the bashful and nervous side than most, but when you get to know her, she's actually quite an emotional and kind girl!
Short Term & Long Term Plans: i basically talked about this on the au planning meme and up here, but my short term arc is to get illya to be okay with the idea of being a dreamer and joining the dreamer union!
Desired CR: i would love any and all cr that can help with the above! illya is very impressionable when it comes to older people, but even kids her own age could help with weighing in on the whole matter.. but even outside from that, i'm up for pretty much any and all cr, come at me!! i have an open log here you can hit up, or you can comment here if you'd like to hash something out first!

Introduction: Resident aro-ace comic shop employee, cosplayer and chronic chunky tag writer who loves to ramble about their favorite canons!
Character Name: Amane Yugi
Canon: Jibaku Shonen Hanako-kun
About: Amane's a shy, nerdy thirteen year old middle-schooler with a chronic illness and a lot on his shoulders by daylight, and a mischievous, cheerful and confident little pain in the ass as Dreamer Hanako by moonlight. He's a former trainee of Ai's (and honorary nephew of sorts) who just graduated to the Experienced rank last month, and despite his gremlin attitude, he takes his Dreamer duties very seriously! Overall, he's a lonely kid and a bit of a lil weirdo who wants to make friends but isn't really sure on how to go about it, and he's INCREDIBLY intent on keeping his Dreamer identity secret from his real one!!
Short Term & Long Term Plans: Re: short term plans, he got his confidence shaken a little last month after a nasty Excursion failure and a particularly messy High-Level Torment fight, so while he definitely would like to take part in the search for Crimson, he's... probably gonna either stick to tagging along with other Experienced Dreamers for more dangerous outings, or keep his solo-led things with the newbies relatively tame 8') He got too ahead of himself and needs to sharpen his teamwork more!!
Long term plans remain the same though-- Amane, please do something about how you're coping with things 8'| But in all seriousness, Amane at his core is a deeply lonely kid who's masking a lot of concerns and problems under a cheery, gremlin façade in the Dream Sphere, so him being able to make friends and connections outside of the people he's spent most of his life around is the top priority here! Ultimately he's an alright kid who's dealing with a lot of messy emotions in regards to his family, his personal identity and his possible mortality, and I think finding the right balance between his Dreamer/Waking selves and getting him to actually be vulnerable about things with others (as opposed to bottling them up or dodging them entirely) is the ultimate goal.
Desired CR:

✿ Dreamers to gradually befriend, team up with and/or get tired of his nonsense-- or on the flipside, frenemies, rivals or people who think he's just a pain in the ass!!!

✿ Customers or people who might frequent at his family's shop! (Which now has a spot on the location page! It's kind of an old and out of the way place in the market, but they have cute plants and a nice quiet place to drink coffee and vibe, and they'll def be selling Tanabata stuff this month if people are interested!

Introduction: Consignee to Retail Hell. Magical girl and band girl appreciator. BD has become my go-to game slash anime this last month, at the expense of Honkai Star Rail, G-Witch, and Street Fighter somehow. Sorry I've been a mess this last week or so, I think I ended up with heat exhaustion after a nice hike to 10,800 feet last weekend and I'm just really feeling better now?

Canon: BanG Dream! Girls Band Party (Bandori)
About: Senior at Promised Morning. Team Mom who went through some bullying in middle school and had a hard few years dealing with it (badly). She's very good at outwardly playing her ideal, bubbly, caring, outgoing self, but it's masking some moderately-severe insecurities that can cause her to react unexpectedly and show visible cracks in her facade - push them at your own risk. Big into fashion and bright colors, so long as her mood's not bringing her down; makes her own clothing and accessories, and has been running her own unofficial Fashion Club. Bakes sweets and gives them away freely, unless it's too damn hot; known to stress bake and will do that even if it bakes her. Plays the bass guitar, but has been too anxious about it to bring it to school, and she's still kinda rusty. In the Dream Sphere, protects others with her starsand-filled bass as Dreamer Rhodonite, when she's not trying too hard and giving herself fits.
Short Term & Long Term Plans: Lisa is coming off a Bad Month and will... well. She wants to take a break and just be a hermit until her batteries recharge. I want her to recognize she's worrying people so she comes to an epiphany about acceptable social behavior. We'll meet in the middle somewhere, but be aware the occasional self-deprecating comment can and will come out of left field every so often. The storms this first week of the month will be a pain for her, but she'll manage somehow. She'll be focusing very, very hard on her Tanabata wish to work through her social anxiety and make lasting relationships. She's also still working on herself in the Dream Sphere, but I have a plan for that one - her next Power, presuming I get it past approvals, should help. She will settle down, I promise, but she has a little more work to do to get there first.
Desired CR: Friends! Especially those that will either be patient while she's having a bit of a bad time, or will actively chastise her for it so she learns from the spray-bottle effect. She especially has a sore spot about her Fashion Club and could use people visiting, even just to hang out - her problem is that she's bad with being alone, and will draw energy from a crowded room even if she's not participating. She has cookies and will share! Oh, and she'll probably be seeing about a study group for finals - she had one for midterms, but people always seem more worried about finals...
Rhodonite really wants to become a Dreamer she can be proud to name herself as, and after a certain conversation is going to be... trying to take it less (more?) seriously. Tanabata will be a test for her on that side, too, but it's one she'll be more open and optimistic about. She's met a few Dreamers, but she could always stand to meet new colleagues. If anyone needs an extra set of hands and doesn't mind a Novice with a Sentry-leaning power- and mindset, she'll be happy to tag along.
Anything Else?: Current project status: working out how to adapt an activity log so I can remember where the hell Lisa was on a given day. I swear this girl ends up in two wards at the same time-

connor is a celebrity who does not particularly enjoy being one, but has literally never been presented with any other option. he's been on several reality tv shows, regularly makes formal appearances as his public-facing dreamer persona, Dreamer Forget-Me-Not, and runs a chill booktube channel. if your character is older, he's that tik tok star you've never heard of but all your nieces and nephews are obsessed with. if your character is younger, he is probably the tik tok star they're obsessed with.
Short Term & Long Term Plans: you cannot get connor to look for dreamer crimson again for love or money he will not do it and he barely wants to talk about it!! he did ONE excursion and he's never going on another one again, thanks!!! (this is a lie. feel free to pick him up and drag him along on one or talk to him about it.)
other than that, the long term goal is to get him to a place where he feels confident in the actual... dreamer part of being a dreamer. which probably starts with, you know. getting better at that stuff so he is going to be spending a lot more time in the dream sphere going forward. which isn't exactly a high bar, because previously he was spending Almost None of his time in the dream sphere.

Canon: Senki Zesshou Symphogear
About: Hibiki became a Dreamer when she was 15 and has been a Dreamer for two years running! Her mentor is Kanade Amou (who is alive in this AU, hint hint other Symphogear watchers), and Hibiki's "Dreamer Gungnir" name is the same as hers! Meaning that there are technically two "Dreamer Gungnir's" and since Kanade is famous, feel free to have your characters recognize that.
She hides it pretty well with her bubbly personality and all, but she's actually got a shockingly low amount of self-worth. Still, so long as nothing causes her to bottle up her negativite emotions too much, she's a reliable Dreamer and 3rd year Senpai! Except for when it comes to academics. Hibiki suffers in that regard.
Short Term & Long Term Plans: Hoping to have Hibiki serve as someone who can look out for younger/novice Dreamers! And maybe once I get Hibiki her singing power, people can start boosting her confidence by bringing up that despite Hibiki's insistence otherwise, she's actually a really good singer. She's got them Aoi Yuuki pipes, after all.
Desired CR/AU Castmates: Either younger Dreamers for Hibiki to big-sis over OR older characters who can grab ahold of this reckless teenager and make sure that she's taking care of herself, because hoo boy, without her girlfriend around? Somebody has to.

I think Rhodonite - Lisa on both sides, really - just needs to build more confidence, which will come with time and practice, which is why she keeps trying to go into the Dream Sphere, which would be fine if she didn't take offense every time she doesn't SSS the stage on Lisa Must Die difficulty and now I'm mixing my metaphors... that doesn't mean she won't accept help, at any rate, she just will eventually get by without it, and thus will feel a little bad burdening others. Finley is a team mum who would be understanding of Ango at first and try to accomodate him. The poor guy just needs a good place to be, right? Right? And he's the kind who'll probably bend over backwards a bit to help Ango out.
