Happy December, Dreamers — and on top of that, happy holidays going into the final month of the year! Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our second Disturbance event and a massive, MASSIVE shout out to Matatabi for creating such a huge and fun Disturbance for everyone to enjoy and doing such a kickass job in running it! I really hope everyone had as much fun exploring it as I did sitting in with Matatabi during the planning phase and I'm super excited to run more Disturbances going forward... with your help!

From January onwards we will be accepting submissions for Disturbance player plot proposals which will run in place of mod events on their corresponding months. These plots will not only be a way to give your character a time in the spotlight and to play around with BD's setting more, they will also be a crucial step in helping to untangle exactly what is happening at the heart of the Dream Sphere and what the mysterious Dreamer Crimson might have to do with it...

However, December tends to be a bit of a slow month in DWRP for all us busy folks so we won't be kicking that into gear until the new year! For now, just enjoy a breather, bask in a job well done and enjoy your holidays! To that end, December will be an AC free month — you can still submit bonus threads and do all your usual business but we won't be running AC again until the end of January, basically.

Beautiful Dreamer was a daydreamy 'maybe someday' project I had been rotating in my head and picking at since around mid 2020 but kept putting off committing to because of nebulous excuses of 'not being ready to run it'. 2023 was the deadline I finally set for myself to kick my own ass into gear and Just Fucking Do It and I am continually delighted and taken aback by the enthusiasm, creativity and genuine warmth of everyone who has poked their head into the game, as well as the number of people making BD their first DWRP game after a long break from the platform or even altogether! Going into 2024, I'm so excited to carry that energy on and to hopefully take BD on to bigger and better thing, so long as you'll stick with me!

ANYWAY, enough of me being soft. OOC announcements for the month!


⧖ Important note about December's app round! This has been mentioned in a few places informally but to get everyone on the same page: December's app around will run from December 10th to the end of the month! Since our app week would have fallen during the busiest part of the month, it's been extended for the holiday and year end season, with apps opening at the same time the AU Plotting and TDM goes up.

⧖ End of year housekeeping! With no event stuff to run in December, I'll be tidying up and updating some of the game info pages, largely just tidying up wording and formatting in places and clarifying any confusing wording... that sort of thing! Nothing should change from a mechanics or player experience side, but on the off chance it happens, a note will be made on official mod channels so nobody gets caught by surprise.

⧖ And on that note: The NPCs & Notable Figures and Additional Lore pages will be getting a couple updates! This will mostly just be in the form of adding and updating some info, but please be sure to drop in any important or just fun setting lore you think should be noted on these pages.

⧖ The Disturbance Info & Plot Submission page will be going up this month! As well as providing lore and juicy info on how Disturbances work, this is where Disturbance plot submissions will happen later down the line.

⧖ Just one final heads up that there is no mod-run event this month since everyone's busy! January will have an event focused around Torment Hunt bounties to ease everyone back into things and from February onwards, we'll be back in business!

At the beginning of the month, an official communication from the DU goes out to all registered Dreamers.


The DU once again extends its sincerest gratitude to each and every Dreamer for your swift and decisive response to ongoing turmoil within the Dream Sphere. Your participation is crucial, and we acknowledge the challenges posed by the abrupt nature of the incident. While the Dreamer Union had hoped that the prior incident involving Mio Kasuga was an isolated occurrence, it appears that we are on the precipice of a potentially unsettling trend within the Dream Sphere.

The data gathered during this event has proven invaluable in our ongoing efforts to analyze and understand this phenomenon. As we continue to work towards containment and comprehension, DU nomenclature will designate such occurrences as "Disturbance" events. It is currently understood that these Disturbance events are separate from normal dreams in that while a regular dream may happen to contain Nightmares and Torments, current working knowledge of Disturbances suggests that their existence hinges exclusively on the presence of the powerful and unusual dream entities found at the core of both known Disturbance - DU nomenclature for such entities going forward will designate them as "Night Terrors". Ongoing research aims to establish more organized responses based on the increasing data flow.

In the wake of this unfortunate news, we would like to brighten things by confirming the safe retrieval of the Dreamer at the core of this Disturbance, Ango Sakaguchi, who has been returned to the Waking World. For those concerned, no disciplinary action of any kind will be enacted - instead, we hope to provide the same support that we would to any victim of such an event and hope that you do the same going forward to him and any who face such circumstances in the future. The DU also wishes to extend thanks and commend the bravery of the Dreamers who were able to confront the Night Terror at the core of this Disturbance and prevent it from causing any further damage. Dreamers Frieren, Gungnir, Flyhigh and Hanako performed exceptionally well under dire circumstances and their efforts cannot be commended enough.

WORLD UPDATES

As those familiar with Yumemigaoka weather will know, its winters are just as extreme as its summers, and when December comes around, it hits like a truck! Winter in Yumemigaoka is characterized by knife-sharp air, frozen streets and regular snowfall, and this December is no exception. Thankfully, the city is extremely used to extreme cold and the city infrastructure isn't too affected by things, so daily life is allowed to go on... mostly unimpeded. Koubai and Akabeni bear the brunt of a nasty snowstorm mid-month, but despite the chilly weather, the atmosphere remains surprisingly cheery. With the annual Christmas illuminations lighting up the city and businesses getting ready for their end of year sales, there's a sense of anticipation for the upcoming year-end holidays. Winter in Yumemigaoka may be pretty miserable weather wise, but so long as you bundle up warm and grab yourself a hot drink, there's also plenty to look forward to!

WORLD EVENTS

⧖ All Month: Thanks to everybody getting in their Season's Feelins (tm), Torment activity across the Dream Sphere as a whole will be greatly reduced. Hey, even Dreamers deserve a little time off, don't they?

!★! December 1st - 25th: Adverts for Christmas cakes and confectionery starring Dreamer Ai-Doll as a pining romantic heroine will continue to play on TV during the run up to the Christmas season. If you don't have her Christmas single stuck in your head yet... you will soon!!!

⧖ December 1st: Hina Flower Gardens closes for the winter season and will be reopening come springtime. Make sure to come back and give them a warm welcome when they open!

⧖ December 5th, onwards: Winter is finally officially here and done fuckin around! From December 5th onwards, the weather will take a turn for freezing and snowy all through until the end of winter.

⧖ December 8th: Torment Hunt Bounty! A large Torment horde spawned from feelings of stress, inadequacy and anxiety have spawned and begun causing all manner of mischief at the Stardust Sanctuary. These Torments take the form of floating blue stars with glowing white eyes who have a nasty habit of trying to leave you with a concussion once they spot you. This is a Medium Risk bounty open to all Dreamers and multiple groups of characters can tackle this challenge. As a reward, characters who successfully clear this bounty will receive double points on rewards associated with this Torment Hunt!

⧖ December 15th: The agency behind the idol group "Pure Candy" announces the group will be going on an indefinite hiatus to "reasses their approach". Amidst a storm of other responses, the official account for Mio Kasuga was noted to have tweeted "lol" and nothing else.

⧖ December 15th-January 8th: All schools across Yumemigaoka close for the winter season. Since schools this far north close earlier than most others around Japan, this means an extra long winter vacation for students!

⧖ December 18th-21st: Many businesses around Yumemigaoka will be holding last minute sales and deals to try and capitalize on the last burst of holiday shopping before people begin winding down for the season. If you have yet to finish up all your holiday shopping, hop on these deals before it's too late!

⧖ December 24th: It's Christmas Eve!!! Considered one of the most romantic days of the year for couples in Japan, restaurants and date spots around the city will be jam-packed with people looking for that romantic atmosphere. If you're a single pringle hoping to have a fun and festive night, you're out of luck for this holiday... or maybe you'll take advantage of the lovey dovey atmosphere to shoot your shot with a special someone?!

⧖ December 25th: Merry Christmas! In Japan, Christmas Day is the time of year for friends and couples to throw parties and hang out, so make sure you've got some plans lined up!

⧖ December 31st - January 1st: The Hikawa Shrine will be open and running its traditional New Year celebrations as everyone gathers to usher in the New Year! As well as their traditional fireworks show once midnight hits, there will be fortunes to buy, yummy food to munch on and plenty of vendors hoping to get in their last big sales for the year. Be sure to get to the shrine as soon as you can - things start winding down around 1am!
