MONTHLY POST

Happy September, Dreamers! How in God's name is it this many months into the year already!! To distract from the inexorable passage of time, I'm hyped to announce that it's time for our fourth Disturbance event! As with all Disturbance plots, there will be limited signup slots for the boss battle at the end so be sure to sign up quick if you're interested!

There's no major OOC updates this month, just a reminder to get set up on the permanent AC page! Since it looks like we'll be permanently moving to that system or at least for the forseeable future, I'll be sure to get the page prettied up and made more player friendly at some point this month.

Other than that, there's not much to say so onto the rest of the post!

EVENT INFO & TIMELINE

We've had a nice long break since our last major upset but you should all know by now that things in the Dream Sphere never stay quiet for too long. Once again, it's time to dive back into the Dream Sphere and rescue one of their own from a Disturbance - and this time, it's Hibiki!

As a recap for those just joining us or who need a recap since our last event: Disturbances are surreal dreamscapes draw directly on the struggles, fears and emotions of a single character, similar to the TV world dungeons in Persona 4 or the Heartscapes in Blue Reflection Second Light. These large-scale dungeons will tie into the overarching plot of the game as we progress and must be tackled in order to prevent a negative outcome on both the Dream Sphere and Yumemigaoka itself. Scary stuff!

In addition, Disturbances are unique among other Outlying Locations in that they vanish once resolved and incubate extremely powerful enemies at their core who must be defeated to save the person at its heart. This where BD's turn based mechanics come in! Disturbance boss battles are where our Boss Tier Combat system finally enters the picture and will require signups beforehand to help keep things organized. In this Disturbance, participants are capped at four Dreamers with at least one Experienced Dreamer with a Signature Move. We will also be prioritizing folks who were not picked or otherwise did not participate in the first dungeon's boss combat. Slots are otherwise open to as many Novices who would like to give things a try!

EVENT TIMELINE

⧖ September 1st: The moon will briefly appear to be missing from the sky for a few hours before midnight, before returning to normal.

⧖ September 12th: A by all means literally impossible flash freeze chills all of Matsuba Ward, intensifying particularly around the Domremy Apartments, and refusing to thaw despite the city seeing dangerous levels of heat. The DU publicly confirms to all Dreamers that they have confirmed the presence of a Disturbance manifestation. With no way of breeching it until it fully manifests, the DU warns that all Dreamers should be prepared to enter the Dream Sphere to dive in once it is fully stable.

⧖ September 14th: The Disturbance log will go up. ICly, this is the date at which Hibiki's Disturbance has fully manifested – or at least enough so that Dreamers can enter it to locate him.

⧖ September 30th: The OOC deadline for Hibiki's rescue from the Dream Sphere.

WORLD UPDATES

Summer might start coming to an end in September but the death throes are anything but pretty! On top of scorchingly high temperatures, Yumemigaoka sees a whole lot of rain, rain and more rain. And to cap things off, the last week or so of the month sees pretty much exclusively thunderstorms and downpours. Even when it's not raining, things don't dry off - the humidity is high enough that just being outside for a while makes you feel like you've been hosed down. Things get so bad, in fact, that the city is forced to grind to a halt for two whole days starting on the 12th when the humidity and temperature suddenly spike to dangerous levels and force basically everyone to stay home for their own safety. You might have gotten an extra long weekend out of it but by god, at what cost?!

Over in the Dream Sphere, the heat wave that hits the city is also hitting the Dream Sphere pretty grd. The Reverie Necropolis, already a gloomy place, becomes oppressively dark and ominous, filled with a low hanging fog that clings to the ground and Fury Peak is like stepping onto the surface of the sun and thus goes understandably neglected as far as Hunts go this month. But on a brighter note, the Whispering Grotto and Facet Lagoon are both still pleasantly refreshing, as are the Reflection Glades. So it's not all bad!

WORLD EVENTS

⧖ All Month: The DU issues a press release asking all Dreamers to refrain from non-essential travel to the Dream Sphere for their own safety. In addition, the visiting Bri'ish kouhais will delay their return to England in order to assist with the emergency at hand.

⧖ September 5th: Dice and Dash will be hosting a board game evening from 4pm to 9pm for customers to stop by, socialize and play any number of the shop's many games. There's a small entry free per person but there's also discounts on all the food and drinks and once you're in the door, everything's free to play!

⧖ September 7th: The Yumemigaoka Tourism Board will be reaching out to local, resident-owned businesses all around the city in order to set up collaborations that can promote local tourism to their respective locations. This will be an ongoing effort that will see local business owners contacted every couple of months, so this month's date is an initial call.

⧖ September 10th: Popular manga author Meiko Kawaguchi will be having a book signing and talk at Kabacha Books as part of a promotional tour for the first volume release of her new series, Wasteland of Rose and Thorn, a Beauty and the Beast themed horror-romance about a young woman looking to rescue her younger sister from a supposedly cursed land. The signing and talk will run from noon until 3PM and a copy of the book is included in the entry fee. If you're a long time fan, you can get merch and other books signed, too!

⧖ September 12th - 13th: The city gets absolutely fucking blasted with humidity in the 90+ percentile range and temperatures to match. To ensure everyone's safety during the extreme weather, businesses and schools around the city shut down save for some retail outlets (and of course, emergency services) so they can stay home and bask in their AC instead!

⧖ September 14th - 30th: The event will take place during this timeframe.

⧖ September 22rd: It's Autumnal Equinox Day, a national holiday where people are encouraged to connect with their families and pay respects at graves or shrines for their ancestors. Picnics and outdoor activities are also encouraged, so long as the weather holds!

⧖ September 26th - 30th: Hidamari Daycare will be temporarily closed thanks to a small health emergency on the part of two of its teachers. Be sure to wish them both well when they're back on their feet!

⧖ September 28th: Oozora Curry announces that a new location will be opening in Kihada next month, with certain curry blends exclusive to that new location.

⧖ September 30th: The outcome of the event will be ICly announced.

Dreamer Ange (Saver)
Once a member of the famous "RAY" Unit, she remained with the DU after the rest of its members retired. Now a Mentor working with the Dreamer Union, she specializes in training newbie Dreamers on the specifics of combat. She's known to be a bit of a grouch and does not take any degree of bullshit but she's got a good heart under it all. Notably, Angelica's appearance does not noticeably change between the Dream Sphere and real life - after transitioning in her teens, she styled herself after her Dreamer form.
Current Status: Continuing to throw herself into investigating Disturbances and seeking out Dreamer Crimson... it looks like she's had no success at breaking into Crimson's domain, though. Just what could be the problem?


Mio Kasuga (She/Her)
Dreamer Forte (Novice)
A novice Dreamer learning the ropes as one of Chaosbringer's trainees. An ex-teen idol who manifested a Disturbance after the pressures of the job got to her. After quitting the group, she's re-emerged as a driven, introverted girl whose passion for piano is only matched by her own high standards for her performing. She has a bit of a hot tempered streak and is gradually re-learning how to be herself again now she's free to pursue her own wants and goals. A member of Promised Morning's school band where she plays - you guessed it - the piano.
Current Status: Slowly returning to Dreamer duties after the anniversary event and even more tentatively deciding to enter the Disturbance alongside everyone else to help save Hibiki. She's pretty freaked out at the prospect but if these Disturbances really are going to keep happening then...


Paige Matthews (She/Her)
Dreamer Valentine (Striker)
One of the DU's Bri'ish kouhais, come all the way from a newly established Dreamer Union branch in England. A young woman pretty high up in the new branch's leadership who wanted to both establish friendly relations between the two branches and learn how things are done at the original location. She's got a gentle, kind personality with a dark sense of humor that jumps out when you're least expecting it.
Current Status: Delaying her return to the UK in order to help out with the Disturbance event.


Rowan Evans (He/They)
Dreamer Cupid (Shielder)
One of the DU's Bri'ish kouhais, come all the way from a newly established Dreamer Union branch in England. He's from their IT department and is interested in developing some in-house propiatry systems for the DU to use - you're at risk of a Coding Infodump if you ask them about it, though. Paige's childhood friend and fiance, he's a quiet guy with immensely chilled out vibes. Has a bit of a flat affect that they primarily use for the sacrosanct purpose of stupid jokes.
Current Status: Delying his return to the UK in order to help out with the Disturbance event - he's a career Mentor back home so he's mostly looking out for the kids and Novices.

Dreamer Bubblegum (Novice)
One of the DU's Bri'ish kouhais, come all the way from a newly established Dreamer Union branch in England. Rowan's little sister and clearly not here for work given that she's all of thirteen. She's the first to admit she's basically just here for a free vacation and also to see what the Dream Sphere looks like in Yumemigaoka. She's cheery and extroverted, though she's still learning Japanese so her communication is a little limited - unless you get talking about Chrono Nexus Iron Valkyrie, a space opera mecha show she has brainworms about, at which point she is basically fluent.
Current Status: Hangin' out in Yumemigaoka while the experienced Dreamers fix the Disturbance. She's been saving all her DU money for a year waiting for this trip and she's got a truly ungodly amount of shopping to do.

Happy Place Rank D: A gentle pink light emanates from the gem on her staff, calming the nerves of everyone (including Kozakura) who can see it and reinforcing their resistance to fear. Sometimes uses it even when she's the only one affected by it because this stuff's scary dude.

About: Junna is a no longer quiiiite so new Dreamer! She recently got her finishing move and her archetype, though it's yet to debut ICly. She is serious and studious, though she's learned to lighten up a little. It is doubtful she will ever learn to lighten up entirely because that's. Just. Too central to who she is. She is also an aspiring actress who hasn't done so hot.

Short Term & Long Term Plans: So!! This month, I plan for Junna to have an argument with her parents because she's excited about getting a part in a community play... and they're wanting her to focus on her studies. This is set up for the future. SO: if you want to overhear Junna having an argument with them over the phone, hit me up!

She might also vent about it to friends. This can also be a thing!

I also plan to send her to the Disturbance, and have her fight there! So if you wanna do Disturbance times, lemme know.

Also currently being dragged back into the Sonic swamp because the Sonic 3 movie trailer altered my brain chemicals 8')

About: An awkward, introverted middle-schooler by daylight, and a goofy, mischievous gremlin Dreamer by moonlight! In his waking hours, he helps out at his family's old cafe-slash-flower shop in Moon Bunny Market, while carving out a bit of a name for himself as Dreamer Hanako in the Dream Sphere by going on numerous excursions and taking on new trainees! Up until earlier this year, he had been trying to maintain a firm divide between his two identities, although his own Disturbance rendered that all mostly moot, so! He's been starting to be a bit more candid about his Dreamer identity to folks, though with the year being the roller coaster it's been, it's easier said than done OTL;;

Amane also has a heart condition that's kept him largely isolated growing up, which has left him sort of detached from his peers and fairly lonely-- although his cagey attitude about things (and just being a huge pain in the butt in the Dream Sphere) hasn't done him much favors either! Throw in a guilt complex about his brother getting lost in the Dream Sphere during their childhood, the effect his Disturbance had on the people he cares about, and his relative uselessness during the Dreamerversary event and he's just an absolute funbag worth of angst that he's maybe or maybe not been working through. (Heavier on the "not" side, sobs--)

Short Term & Long Term Plans: Now that cosplay hell is over and done with (and provided there's no extra anxiety curveballs in September), I'm looking to get Amane back into the swing of things again!! ICly, I'm just gonna say he's been lying low and taking it easy since June, focusing on school stuff and helping at Camellia over the past couple months, so if anyone wants to handwave stuff with him re: that time, feel free! As for September though, I definitely want to throw him into the Disturbance, since he's, uh. Going to have very complicated feelings about getting involved in one again, considering the last one that happened was his own 8'| Ideally, he's just going to assist others and maybe fight the mid-boss to make sure nothing else catastrophic happens to the Dream Sphere again, but should he wind up in the Night Terror fight, he is going to NOT be thrilled, for MANY reasons 8'''| (Namely that he's not qualified to convince ANYONE to leave their Disturbance, but also he's been on the other side of Hibiki's fist when she wasn't in Mental Health Crisis Mode and!! HE DOESN'T WANT TO GET HIS SKULL SMASHED IN AGAIN, THANKS!!!!!

Disturbance stuff aside, I sort of want to do more stuff with the florist side of Camellia, so if there are any IC events/occasions you'd think your character would want floral deliveries to, lmk! Also eying the collaboration thing too for future things, but 8|a HMMM

Long-term plans are still about the same, though: getting him more comfortable/willing to ease open his clam shell to open up to others, getting him into a Unit of some sort, and also possibly a Tandem Attack! He's also been developing embarrassingly big dokis for Nene (which other folks may have already clocked/spotted thanks to the Tanabata event), and they're kind-of-sort-of-dating but neither of them have labeled anything yet, so! He is a romantic mess and needs all the guidance he can get, even if he'll never admit to as much 8')

Desired CR:

About: Keiwa's motifs are tanukis, ninjas and the colour green. His hobby is volunteering, he lists cooking as one of his skills and his favourite food in the world is Tanuki Soba. His canon email address is 'keiwadayo'. When asked in an in-universe job interview what his personal goals are, he unironically answers "World Peace." When given an opportunity to write down what he desires most, he still writes down "World Peace." This is Keiwa in a nutshell.

Short Term & Long Term Plans: Signing Keiwa up for the Disturbance! LOL I lied, I'm throwing Sonic in because it's funnier that way. Otherwise, we're just vibing at this point, because he'll be around volunteering and he might start looking into getting another job soon, even though he's enjoying his time at Camellia. All in all, he's just hanging out, doing tanuki things.

Desired CR:
Keiwa has a very meek and passive personality, which doesn't change from the waking world to the Dream sphere. He's happy to look out for people in the Dream Sphere, though he's got like... a 60:40 ratio of being a klutz vs being cool af because he's got no confidence in himself but he's actually decent in combat.

He's super considerate of other people and tries very hard to get along with everyone. Keiwa himself isn't super social but in a 1:1 relationship, he'll absolutely put in the legwork to make things work. So I wouldn't mind getting CR with more quiet, grumpy or condescending type characters. Before you ask, he does respect people's boundaries! But he'll still try to get along with/check up on you/make you homecooked food because he cares about people more than he should. 8(

Of course if you want to annoy him, that's fine too! Lad puts up with a lot, but he will (gently) call you out on your shit (eventually). He happily interacts with all character types in canon and I will also tag anything. The distant and aloof types, the energetic and cheerful types, the grumpy tsunderes, etc, idc and neither does Keiwa, c'mere so this Tanuki can make you a delicious bowl of soba.

Confident, self-assured, free spirited and totally wild. Do you need a friend? No? Too bad, everyone needs a friend so you're stuck with him now.

Both in the waking world and in the Dream Sphere, his personality is the same though his appearance is... Rather different? His hair is the bright Sonic blue, his eyes are green, his outfit leans harder into ouji fashion with a punk flair. He has ears and a short tail you can't see under the trail of the bow on his back. Kind of shameless, loves running around the Dream Sphere like he loves running around the waking world.

Short Term & Long Term Plans: He just had a failed excursion with Rhodonite and Chaosbringer where Perfect Chaos finally gets it's long awaited W. Sonic was thinking about going back when the notification comes up but he's absolutely going to jump headfirst into the Disturbance. I'm only a little annoyed at this but tbh it's probably better Sonic is there vs Keiwa. Also looking into collabing with the tourism board because his mom runs a gallery! I always forget where it is, other than one of the two central locations, but it's always open for people to come in and check out/use as a backdrop. 8>

About: University freshman; Team Mom who went through some bullying in middle school and had a hard few years failing to deal with it properly. She's very good at outwardly playing her ideal, bubbly, caring, outgoing self, but it's masking some moderate insecurities that can cause her to react unexpectedly and show visible cracks in her facade. She's working on the worst of her emotional excesses, and it's showing, but it's also taking some time. Big into fashion and bright colors, so long as her mood's not bringing her down; makes her own clothing and accessories. Bakes cute and tasty sweets and gives them away freely; still stress bakes sometimes. Practicing her bass guitar again, and carries it when there's space on her shoulder beside her school bag. In the Dream Sphere, protects others with her starsand-filled bass as Dreamer Rhodonite. Short Term & Long Term Plans: Lisa has, perhaps surprisingly, had a Good Month and is riding high. Her date went well, she picked up her bass again on her birthday and played music she can be comfortable with, and she's starting university! So her life's more or less in order. She still hasn't figured out moving out of the house, but... eh. She'll come back to that.

So of course a wrench needs to be thrown from offstage. And it's a very big, very noticeable wrench that needs to be immediately addressed. That wrench is, of course, Hibiki, and Lisa's going to charge straight into that Disturbance the moment it opens. She's cognizant of the danger - both from the perils sure to be within and from its mistress - but she said she'd try to help Hibiki, and so that's where she'll be. She's going to try and push through to the Night Terror, but if she doesn't make it there, she'll fight whatever she can reach. Her song will ward the path, and she needs everyone to match her tempo.

Outside that, she's going to be melting. It's gonna be hot and she doesn't really have the motivation to bake like this. Instead she'll find some nice air-conditioned places to work on her bass playing, so feel free to find her around her campus, at the DU, and at Camellia, although she'll be polite in the latter case and keep her instrument in its bag. Despite the travel restriction mid-month, Lisa will make the trek to the DU and spend some time there leading up to the Disturbance opening - partly to talk to the British Dreamers, partly to get their affairs somewhat in order, and partly to get away from her parents, which she could be coaxed into talking about? Until Hibiki is rescued, she's going to be a little reluctant to socialize, although she definitely will need someone to push her to relax a bit.

Lisa's long-term plans are taking a bit of a backseat this month. She's still seeking to develop into a Dreamer that people can rely on, which is likely to result in a career, but... university will be an excuse to widen her skills and look for other things she can do for her friends and her colleagues.

Desired CR: Musicians and those with related vocations! Hell, she'll even take up singing. Maybe. She insists she's bad but she's at least decent but probably better left to harmonies. College students! Young adults! New residents! Dreamers! And honestly, probably anyone else I haven't mentioned yet.

Also I think I've decided on what archetype I want to put Ruby in so been thinking of giving her that upgrade and debuting at least a basic form of the signature move I have planned. The full-powered version will come with character development that I wanna start steering her towards a little more. I'm not in a massive hurry to get her fully developed though since growing up is messy so Fuck it We Ball

She's always there to help with odd jobs and dispense cynical but useful advice, and she could use to be friendshipped out of her funk, but she insists she's totally fine.

Short Term & Long Term Plans: Mostly, she's just there to help everyone else out or make snarky commentary with them, but a few people have now dug up her past in acting and decided to ask why she quit or bother her about leaving her dream behind.

Desired CR: Her backstory is open for any Dreamer relatives or friends who got her the DU tech support job, and I'm also looking for other adults (Maki turned 29 last month and told nobody) to befriend and salt with, but anything's fine. Since we have more DU employees now, I'm always up to throw Maki at them!

About: A tiny little grouch but a pretty brilliant cognitive scientist, she's actually just kind of gruff about being a softy. Also a massive coward who avoids head-on combat, and her powers sure suit it.

She wasn't interested in the Dream Sphere previously, but met a dreamer by the name of Satsuki Uruma in college who dragged her into it - which lead to her becoming Dreamer Mind and joining the DU to put her specialty to use studying the Dream Sphere. Satsuki was obsessive about venturing deeper, often on her own, however, which built tension between them... and then one day Satsuki disappeared.

Now Kozakura is left dealing with that, all while wondering if Satsuki wasn't up to something super sketchy at the same time.

Short Term & Long Term Plans: I need to get back up and eat that horse, so I'd like to throw Kozakura into a hunt or two if anyone wants her. Chris got swept and I'll consider re-apping at some point but rn let's see if I can get things going with Koza again.

She's not going to enjoy the storms either.

Long term will be seeing if we can't work something out with the Satsuki stuff to make her plot relevant, or if she's just a tragic backstory event.

Desired CR: Children to annoy her into taking care of them, adult coworkers for her to gripe at. More experienced DU employees who would know Satsuki, although she was kind of an odd woman who often ran in her own small social circles.

About: Washed-up novelist, 38-year-old juvenile delinquent, cosplay ninja, disaster bisexual, MILF enthusiast. Ango has been with the DU for over a year now, which is by far the longest amount of time he's ever been gainfully employed.

Short Term & Long Term Plans: He owes Hibiki for saving him back during his own Disturbance, so he'll be there! (Although since I've had a character in every previous Disturbance boss fight I should probably give others a chance...) Since he's always desperate for extra cash, he might get involved with stupid part-time jobs for the tourism board... somebody has to wear the mascot costume. Also, Ango's birthday is next month and he's one step closer to death 40, so feel free to drag this old man.

Desired CR: I am always here for comic relief. I'd also love for Ango to take on a mentor role even though he'd be the worst mentor. He's surprisingly diligent sometimes.

Short Term & Long Term Plans: They'll definitely participate in Hibiki's Disturbance, even though the last one took a real mental toll on them.

Desired CR: Shinsha is awkward but they're always looking for friends! They give pretty good advice, too, although no one ever listens to them. They're getting pretty fed up with these Disturbances, so they're going to feel more motivated to figure out what's really going on in the Dream Sphere.

About: Closeted Genderfluid Mess of a dancer who acts way more put together than they really are. Sweet kid most of the time but LOVES to tease, and also gets. weirdly competitive when they get rly into something that could involve some sort of competition. In the end they're just trying to figure out who exactly they are, when all the outer walls are broken down.

this is gonna be First Disturbance Experience!! nadeshiko's prolly gonna be playing more of a back-liner role this time around, but she'll def have a part in it! though considering this is her first time around something like this, and she just can't help herself, it'll be possible to come across her looking for something - rather, someone - who very likely is not Hibiki. the hunt for the missing Little Guy never ends!! u never know where he could be!!

speaking of rhythm though, beyond the event, i wanna try to do more w/ nagi this month!! let him carve out his own lil place in this city! which. might involve him "meeting" people he's already met as nadeshiko and having to try SO HARD not to say things or talk abt stuff only nadeshiko would say/know. but also if anyone wants him to be the first "twin" they meet that's cool too
