TDM #2
TDM #2

Welcome to Beautiful Dreamer's test drive meme! If you're unfamiliar with the game, then you can check out the navigation to get yourself up to speed on all the relevant info pages then check out the most recent AU Planning meme to see what juicy ideas your fellow players are cooking up!
As the prompts in the TDM are based on events from the prior in-game month, the overall TDM is not canon to Beautiful Dreamer though players are free to treat individual CR/threads on this post as canon to their characters if both players are happy to do so.
Dreamers on the TDM will have access to all of their starter powers as outlined on the powers page as well as two unique abiliites to play around with as you please.
Some prompts and location details have been provided below for you to play around with but please feel free to go hog wild and have fun!
YUMEMIGAOKA

May comes rolling in full of blustery winds and heavy rain, blowing away the sleepy spring atmosphere with aplomb! While the second half of the month perks up a little and there's more sunshine to be seen, the first half of May is decidedly dreary and wet. Hopefully nobody's plans fall through on account of all this miserable weather...
- ⧖ It's Golden Week! The city is buzzing with excitement as the holiday brings in crowds of tourists and locals alike, all aiming to take advantage of sales and promotions or just enjoy some hard-earned time off. Of course, this unfortunately means the city is a little more jam-packed than usual and maybe it causes just a few traffic and transport delays... but it's better than being stuck in work, right? Why not go out and see what all the fuss is about?
⧖ Yikes, watch that forecast! A massive thunderstorm blows in just over Kihada, plastering the streets with rain and causing a blackout that lasts a good few hours. Some people might be upset, but there's nothing quite like a good storm to make things more fun and exciting... so long as you're viewing them from a distance, anyway. You WERE wise enough to find safe shelter as soon as it started bucketing down, right?
⧖ Moon Bunny Market are organising a stamp rally all around the neighborhood, with prizes on the line if you manage to collect them all. Just find the right stalls and speak to the right people and you could win a tasty prize!
Of course, even with the city being in such a jovial mood that doesn't mean things are all fine and dandy. With midterms and exam results on the horizon and the high-strung anxiety and stress of muddling your way through a major holiday it just makes sense that some of that might seep through to the other side...
THE DREAM SPHERE

The Dream Sphere might be a very different kind of place to Yumemigaoka but that doesn't mean it's any less busy. The weather is miserable over on this side, too – the usually pretty skies have turned bruise purple with low, heavy clouds that are swollen with rain. Thankfully, it seems like more of the places around the Dream Sphere are getting away with just a few light showers but things are still pretty cold and miserable over here. Good thing you've got work to distract you, at least!
As usual, the emotions stirring over in the Waking World have begun funnelling into the Dream Sphere and causing all manner of problems here and there. Torments and Nightmares won't hunt themselves so be sure to properly scout out all the available locations of the Dream Sphere you can access just in case - maybe you'll find a new teammate to work with while you're out there!
In particular, it looks like trouble can be found...
- ⧖ At Fury Peak, things are hotter than hot! There's no rain here but the volcano is steadily leaking a heavy black smog which has turned navigating the place into a real task, even for a fully prepared Dreamer. To make matters worse, a group of particularly aggressive Torments made out of volcano glass and black rock are gathering and ganging up on any Dreamer they see. Torments at Fury Peak are even more foul tempered than usual and they're hitting especially hard today so you better act fast and deal with them ASAP!
⧖ In the Reverie Necropolis, the sky is hidden behind black clouds that hang low and a horrible cold wild blows all through the inside and outside of the place. Once you actually enter the labyrinth, frantic whispers can be heard and the scratching of nails against brick can be heard running up and down the corridor. The vibes are absolutely rancid, is what I'm saying – made even worse by the fact that when you stumble into one of the open caverns, you come across a Nightmare just about to manifest?! Better hope you're not alone, because you'll need some good strong teamwork to keep things from escalating any further!

[Being a long time staple of Moon Bunny Market, it was no surprise that Camellia, the resident kissaten-slash-flower shop, was taking part in the stamp rally-- though considering it didn't have the same sort of appeal as, say, the trendier cafes or the cute stationary store, it wasn't a stop that was immediately on people's lists. Still, they had a stall regardless, with cute little pots with easy to care for plants, along with some surprisingly strong coffee on tap for anyone who wanders over to ask.
At the moment, it's being manned by a dark-haired teenage boy (who was probably thirteen at best), whose attention seems more on what looks like his study materials than actually promoting the stamps or anything being sold at the booth. It takes him a moment to acknowledge anyone approaching the table, but once he does, he snaps up, hastily setting down his pen.]
Oh, were you looking for something...?
❀ Thunderstorm
[Amane's not usually in this side of Yumemigaoka these days (not since he's transferred from Fujiwara Junior High to Promised Morning, at least), but a doctor's appointment had him in this side of Kihada for the afternoon, and it seemed like a good idea at the time to browse one of the local bookstores. After all, there was a new astronomy book out that he had been meaning to pick up, and the stores over in Akabeni didn't seem to have it yet...
Maybe he should have anticipated this turn of events given the dark clouds and weather from the past week or so, but the heavy sheets of rain still came as a surprise as he was gearing up to leave with his purchase. He had brought an umbrella, but sheer amount pouring down (along with his very water-unfriendly bag and books nestled into it) made leaving a rather poor decision. Still, he waits near the doorway, along with a number of other similarly stranded customers, in the vain hopes the storm would pass quickly. Maybe he should text his brother to let him know he might be getting home later than expected...
But before he can finish up his text, a loud BANG resounds outside the store, startling him enough to both drop his phone and instinctively clutch onto the arm of whomever nearby. It takes him a second to get his bearings (and to catch his breath-- his poor heart really didn't need this), but once he realizes what he'd just done, he quickly lets go, hands still trembling slightly from the shock.]
Sorry, sorry, I just-- I, uh--
[Shoot. How was he going to explain this to someone without looking like a total kid?]
✿ Slumbering City
[The dreariness in the Dream Sphere is an improved change from the blustery storms back in Yumemigaoka, but it's still not really pleasant to hang around in with nothing to do. If you're hanging around the usual Dream Union hub in Slumbering City, you might feel a sudden tug upon you arm or sleeve, pulling incessantly until they manage to get your attention.]
Hey, heeeeeeeeey.
[Maybe you might recognize the moon-eyed young Dreamer pulling upon you-- or maybe you've never seen this kid before in your life. Either way, once he's gotten your attention, Dreamer Hanako is going to give his best cheerful smile, totally unconcerned whether or not he might be pestering you at this exact moment.]
I'm bored. You wanna go do something fun?
✿ Reverie Necropolis
[You may be be patrolling the winding, icy halls of the dreary Necropolis labyrinth, the unsettling vibes coming in hard. There's always a chance of something trailing and following after you on normal days, but today the eerie sensation seems to be particularly persistent, especially after a certain bend in the path. Is it a strong Torment? Another Nightmare on the verge of manifesting? The answer soon lets itself be known as a face suddenly appears to be looming above you, expression set in a gleeful, mischievous grin.]
BOO.
[HANAKO?? Maybe DON'T try to spook people in the area of the Dream Sphere that thrives on fear and anxiety?????]
✿ Wildcard
[hmu if you have any other prompts/ideas! Amane's AU toplevel is here, but tl;dr he's a shy nerd in the Waking World who becomes more of an outgoing pest in the Dream Sphere, and he very much keeps a sharp divide between his mahou and civilian lives!! Also feel free to poke me @
❀ Moon Bunny Market
...No. Nothing in particular.
[Even so, their gaze lingers on a small cactus in a cute pot with cherry blossom patterns. Shinsha has always been drawn to cacti - they're prickly, slow-growing, and reluctant to flower, yet they're also resilient and able to thrive in harsh environments. But there are already well over a dozen little pots lined up on the windowsill of Shinsha's tiny one-room apartment, and even though they've been living alone for several years now, there's an irrational little voice in the back of their mind that insists that the ever-growing collection of plants might take up too much space and bother someone.]
no subject
It says something of Amane's acting skills that he can quickly squelch down the momentary panic that flickers across his face once he spots his former mentor browsing the table, seamlessly schooling his features into a pleasant (if not a touch awkward) smile instead. It's not as if they haven't crossed paths in the Waking World before-- in fact, it was kind of nice having someone not over the age of thirty stop into his parent's store for once-- but man... Shinsha's appearances never stopped being a jump-scare for him. Granted, they seemed more focused on the flowers whenever they visited as opposed to dunking him in a pool of liquid mercury, but still...
At the very least, though, it didn't look like his senpai had caught onto Amane's Dreamer identity yet, so thank goodness for small miracles!! He wasn't sure what he was going to do if Shinsha had ever figured him out.
Perish, probablySpeaking of being figured out, though...
Amane's eyes travel to the object catching Shinsha's gaze, and he does his best to suppress a bit of a smirk. Somehow, it seemed very fitting for the sharp yet hardy Dreamer he knew over in the Dream Sphere to be fond of cacti, of all things. He props his elbow against the surface of the table, resting his chin upon the palm of his hand as he nods over to the little pot that captured their attention.]
Cute, right? We just got a bunch of those specifically for the rally. It kinda fits with the season, doesn't it?
no subject
It's... kind of cute.
[Damn it, they're not supposed to like cute things. Cute things are fragile and easily damaged, and Shinsha is tall and gangly and clumsy. They prefer dull, sturdy practicality. And yet...]
...I'll take it. Do you have a box I could put it in? I don't want it to get hurt on the way home.
[Damn that Amane and his powers of persuasion! The mercury pool just got even deeper!]
no subject
Amane sits up a bit straighter, lifting his head off of his hand as he stretches his writing arm a little (Whoof, he's really gotta take a break with his studies). The question does take him off guard, and he pauses to think for a second.]
Hm? Oh, yeah, I think we got some. I know we saved them just in case...
[He rummages under the table as he talks, trying to find the aforementioned box.]
It'd probably be good to get some paper in there too, just to keep the pot from shifting--
[His words end abruptly, though, as he pulls out... well. It's certainly a box, and just the right size for the plant, but... clearly someone had found the Yugi family's stamp and went ham on it. And from the exasperated look on Amane's face as he whips his head around to the store behind him, he knows exactly who the culprit is, too.]
Tsukasa!! Seriously??
[If the cackle of laughter in response from inside the shop sounds eerily familiar to the one Shinsha is used to in the Dream Sphere... it seems being a pain in the butt is just a Yugi Twin thing.]
no subject
Hanako. But that's impossible. Dreamers can't appear in the real world, and even if they could, Amane is right here... But that irritating, unnerving laugh can only belong to one person.
Shinsha goes pale, the clashing reddish tone of their hair making their face look even more bloodless than usual.]
Who... what was that?

Reverie Necropolis
"BOO!"
Dreamer Guardian certainly lets out a loud, undignified yell, jumping far and back, and holding his staff out in front fo him.
But, it's another Dreamer. One he's pretty sure he's seen before, though not specifically familiar with.
He lets out a breath, and hand on his chest.]
Goodness, you almost gave me a heart attack. Please save it for the torments.
[He's already scared out of his wits. He didn't want to try to launch out of his skin with them. Despite all the stress and the scare, though, he sounds remarkably calm and forgiving about the whole situation.]
no subject
Sorry, sooooorry!
[ARE YOU ACTUALLY SORRY THOUGH, HANAKO???]
Gotta admit I got you good, though!
[His cheeky smile morphs into something of a smirk, though, as he crosses his legs and leans back a bit in midair, keeping himself level with Guardian's line of sight.]
And besides, it probably got your mind off the maze for a moment, right?
no subject
[He takes a deep breath to calm his nerves back down, leaning back to the corner he was getting ready to peek around.]
I don't suppose you know if there's anything... I should worry about? In here?
[There almost assuredly is. Otherwise, he wouldn't be here, right? But a guy can hope.]
Have you found anything so far?
no subject
Well, I'm much scarier than anything we might find in here, so whatever comes next would be a piece of cake, don't you think?
[Hanako, you're like barely five feet tall and built like a twig, the only thing scary about you is that you're an unsupervised child with a knife--
But his playful expression drops into something a bit more pensive at Guardian's questioning, all mischief momentarily forgotten in the wake of their duties as Dreamers, especially those under the DU's employee. Hanako crosses his arms, humming a little as his hand reaching up to his chin and taps it thoughtfully. For as much of a pain in the ass he could be, at least he took his job in the Dream Sphere rather seriously.]
Mmm... maybe? Possibly? I took care of a lot of little guys when I came in here, but they all seemed to be heading in a certain direction. Like... thataway.
[He gestures behind him, the very corner Guardian was about to peek around, and while there's a tiny bit more path around that curve that leads into a gloomy void, it's definitely giving off a lot of DO NOT PROCEED vibes. Hanako merely smiles, though, looking seemingly unperturbed by all of these blatant warning signs.]
It might be bad news if we let them get too friendly with one another, so I guess it's a good thing we ran into each other, huh? "Teamwork makes the dreamwork", or something like that ☆
[How he managed to say that last part without a trace of cringe across his face is beyond comprehension, tbh]
no subject
If you're always that sneaky, then maybe you are scarier than anything here. I hope so, at least.
[Though he's definitely more scared of the Torments, honestly. Hanako won't kill him, or at least he doesn't think so. They're both Dreamers, and that should make them comrades. It certainly hasn't crossed his mind that maybe a Dreamer would go rogue.
He listens intently to Hanako's findings. Giving that peek around the corner at Hanako's pointed direction, seeing that gloom as it looms eerily ahead. Yep, that's a thing. And it probably most definitely needs to be dealt with.]
Good work. I'm glad you were able to find all of this out.
[Cuts down the searching at least.]
And you're right. We have each other, now. I hope we can take care of this together.
[Numbers definitely help. And it helps Guardian find his resolve to go toward the void.]
Shall we go in, then?

thunderstorm;

Ee-!?
[-her own composure shorts out at much the same time, Lisa visibly jolting as the flash and bang scare her straight out of her skin. The pressure on her arm is by comparison almost reassuringly grounding? It takes a second for her to come under control even enough to address the voice at her side.]
O-o-oh, it's! It's f-fine! It, um. Surprised both of us! Yeah?
[Lisa. Don't even try to pass this off, honey, it's not working.]
no subject
Yeah--! [Crap, he squeaked-- better clear his voice and try that again] Yeah, it, um-- came out of nowhere, huh? I didn't realize it could get that loud...
[He trails off, unsure of where to go from there. He wasn't great at starting conversations with strangers on regular days, and this whole situation didn't exactly help matters, either. Before he can stew in the silence any further, though, the store decides to provide an ice-breaker of it's own-- with a feeble flicker, the lights dim for a second, before going completely black, dousing the shop in darkness.
Welp.]
no subject
St-stupid weather report... guess I should have trusted it a l-little more... I've never, um. Been this close to the center before, I guess.
[And then the lights flash and die, and the central air sputters and dies, and the cases all go dark. The only light is from the passing cars and the grim sky. Somehow Lisa's heart sinks even further.]
I just had to get this damn c-cookbook today... Sorry. Ignore me, I'm just. Kind of in a bad s-spot right now. Are you... okay?
[He'd grabbed her earlier, right? Was that because he'd been spooked too, or...? She can work with a misery buddy.]
no subject
The girl's voice next to him snaps him out of his thoughts, and for a moment, he looks at her, his round, moon-ish eyes reflecting in the dark. He attempts a small smile, but it's strained, the effort a bit futile in the lack of light in the shop.]
I... I'm fine.
[That wasn't even remotely true, if the underlying tremor in his voice is any indication, but he was going to will himself to believe it regardless. Maybe it was the older brother in him (well... older brother to a twin, but it still counted, sort of), but he didn't want to add onto someone else's worries with his own. Sure, misery loves company, but in times of crisis (and being stuck in a blacked out bookstore certainly was one of those occasions), someone had to stay calm... even if he seriously wanted to hide under the nearest table until this was all over with.]
Um... so... y-you mentioned a cookbook? What kind did you-- um, pick up?
[Best thing to do right now was to keep talking, even if he wasn't the best at it, to distract the both of them from the situation at hand.]
no subject
I'm glad. Or, well. As... glad as I can be right now.
[This poor kid doesn't sound fine, but she's in no position to call him on it. But he's trying, and more than that, talking about her dinner plans might help her keep her head, and someone to listen to might help him too.]
I'm go-good at baking, but I wanted to. To try something new for dinner. I'd, um, looked up a recipe, but I d-don't really like... cooking from my phone. U-unless I have to, I mean. So. [She shifts, to indicate her tote bag, before realizing it'd be difficult to see.] A-ah. So, I bought the book. And then I was- [flashBOOM, muted squeak, tremble-] s-s-supposed to go and buy. Buy capers.
[A wan smile, before she glances out the front window of the shop.] That's. Not h-happening right now.

Helloooo! ♫ I'm not too late to get all my stamps, am I?
[ Look, she might have been on vacation for Golden Week, but she's not gonna miss a good stamp rally!! ]
no subject
Not at all! You came just at the right time, actually.
[He knows better than to call her by name or refer to her by "Senpai" in the open like this-- no use putting all of her hard work for maintaining both her secret identity AND his to waste-- but he's still thrilled to see her none the less. Amane's hand reaches over to where the Moon Bunny Market-approved ink pad and stamp lay, and--
The smile drops off his face as there's a whole lot of nothing that meets his hand instead, and his blinks momentarily in confusion, eyes searching the table with it's many plants and cups, but no stamp.]
... wait. Where'd it GO?
no subject
The grin slips off her face once she realizes the trouble though and her eyebrows shoot up in surprise. ]
Uh oh! Has there been a stamp and dash? [ She can't imagine that someone would STEAL the thing, so it's probably just been misplaced but who knows! There could be an illicit stamp rally ring lurking around the corner for all they know. ] When did your last customer come around?
no subject
Last person was like an hour ago, but... I don't think anybody stole it. I mean, we don't really get many people this way as it is...
[And sure, the prize was tasty, but would someone really be that desperate for delicious food to go and take their stamp??
As Amane continues his search around the table, his feet catch onto some papers peeking out from underneath... papers that just so happen to be covered top to bottom in the Yugi family's specific stamp for the booth. Interesting.]
no subject
[ Ai hums to herself thoughtfully for a moment. Usually she has a pretty good sense for when Amane is trying to pull one over on her so she doesn't think this is any sort of intentional tomfoolery and he seems legitimately concerned enough for her to guess that he really has no idea where the stamp's gone. But... come on, that's such a good clue that she can't just pass up bait like that. ]
I wonder... [ While he's rooting around on the table, Ai stoops down and pulls out the paper so she can take a good nosy look right under the stall. S–seriously, does she have no shame?? ] Just what's going on under here?

And for now they're comfortable sitting sideways on a bench, not entirely at rest, instead capriciously messing with their deck of cards. Draw a selection, shuffle them, lay out three and put the rest back. Flip each of the three over one by one. Flip them back over, draw two more, mix them up on the bench and arrange them in a horseshoe pattern. The three cards that should be familiar are not.]
Hey, hey?
[The tugging at their arm above their glove catches their interest immediately; it isn't visible but it's not like it's a difficult guess where it should be, and they orient onto the voice. Unfamiliar face. They haven't seen him before, but those wide eyes, those are familiar-ish, they're the eyes of a child about to cause trouble, and Dreamer Mantle mirrors Hanako's cheer with their own automatic spreading smile.]
Always! But what you find fun and what I find fun might not be the same kind of fun. [Well, they're speaking English but at least it's repetitive English if the boy doesn't know it!] What takes away your boredom in these dreams?
no subject
... except he didn't quite anticipate the language barrier he just ran headlong into. OOPS.
His expression drops a bit, his smile still in place but now looking a touch awkward, trying to figure out how to respond. English was more or less a second language in Yumemigaoka, and Amane himself made a point to study up on it back in the waking world (he'd have no shot at NASA, otherwise!!), but... well. Knowing verb tenses and getting the general gist of what someone was saying was very different from actually holding a conversation. But he'd certainly give it a shot!]
I like to scare people!
[And said without shame too... though even Hanako realizes how that might come off in someplace like the Dream Sphere, and he quickly clarifies:]
Or... trick? Prank? Just to bother, not to hurt. Hurt no good.
What about you?
no subject
Sorry! My Japanese is weak.
[That might not be the right word for weak? Oh well. Context will probably see them through. The little Dreamer's English isn't bad, anyway, and Mantle switches back to that for now.]
I thought you had impish eyes! It's been a while since I scared anyone in dreams. That can be fun...
I like to explore, too. The... the places, mares. Each dream-place. Find Torments. Maybe fight them. It's doing a good deed, right? I suppose that's the opposite of scaring.
no subject
It's not bad, though!
[Oh, wait, but if they're having trouble with it, Hanako should probably stick to English, shouldn't he? If he was feeling more puckish, he would have taken advantage of this language barrier, but... well, this Dreamer seemed cool, so he'll behave himself... for now.]
Maybe... we can try both? That is to say... my English is okay, but we can help each other with words if they give us trouble?
[Like for instance, that word "impish" they used... but he could assume it was a good thing, right? Either way, Hanako leans over the back of the bench, propping his face up with his fists and shooting the other Dreamer a wide grin, looking every bit the mischievous little devil he was claimed to be.]
You can still scare people when you fight Torments! You have to be very creative, I think. [... maybe this is why people do not want to team up with you, child. Still, the grin fades into something more wistful, and he swings his feet a bit as he continues to speak.] But... the exploring, I think that can be fun, too. It is like... finding a new star, maybe? A new world? It is... nice.
[A beat, and then in Japanese, nonchalantly:]
Stabbing the monsters is kinda awesome too, though.
[Hanako OH MY GOD]
