TDM #3

TDM #3

Welcome to Beautiful Dreamer's test drive meme! If you're unfamiliar with the game, then you can check out the navigation to get yourself up to speed on all the relevant info pages then check out the most recent AU Planning meme to see what juicy ideas your fellow players are cooking up!

As the prompts in the TDM are based on events from the prior in-game month, the overall TDM is not canon to Beautiful Dreamer though players are free to treat individual CR/threads on this post as canon to their characters if both players are happy to do so. That said, don't feel as though you have to stick entirely to the TDM prompts – you can use them as a springboard or some up with something totally new so long as it fits into the world of Beautiful Dreamer!

Dreamers on the TDM will have access to all of their starter powers as outlined on the powers page as well as two unique abilities to play around with as you please.

Some prompts and location details have been provided below for you to play around with but please feel free to go hog wild and have fun!

YUMEMIGAOKA

As if apologizing for the miserable weather the month prior, June comes through sunny and bright! It might still be blustery and damp out with some scattered showers but the skies are blue and clear and that summer heat is starting to creep in.May comes rolling in full of blustery winds and heavy rain, blowing away the sleepy spring atmosphere with aplomb! While the second half of the month perks up a little and there's more sunshine to be seen, the first half of May is decidedly dreary and wet. Hopefully nobody's plans fall through on account of all this miserable weather...

It's Yumemigaoka Rainbow Pride Weekend! Yumemigaoka's Pride event falls in June and lasts over a whole weekend with a fun and lively festival held over at Yotsuba Park. There's live music, tasty foods and a whole mountain of cool things to buy from vendors and small businesses. Unsurprisingly, there's a whole lot of Dreamers milling around the event and overall the whole thing just seems like a good, fun time. Just don't get too overheated rocking out at the soundstage or shopping til you drop!

⧖ You're stranded! Thanks to last month's horrible weather, a number of train stations around the city have closed for repairs up and down the city leaving huge holes in the usually reliable train schedule. Of course, this happens to be just as you need to get somewhere important... there's still buses and taxis on the roads so maybe you need to fight a fellow passenger to get on one of those, or maybe you're just accepting your fate and vibing at the station until a good replacement train comes along...

Matsuba World Market is extending their Golden Week sale to clear out the last of their spring merchandise which means their already low prices are absolutely rock bottom and it's caused a bit of a frenzy over at the market! With this many bargains afoot, are you really going to be able to pick up that cheap spice rack without throwing a few hands first?!

THE DREAM SPHERE

In contrast to the Waking World, the weather over in the Dream Sphere is absolutely miserable once again, bucketing rain all over the Dream Sphere no matter where you are. At least you know your clothes and hair are going to be warm and dry once you pop back over to the other side, but that doesn't make the time you're spending here any less of a horrible endurance test! Fight on, Dreamers!!!

As usual, the emotions stirring over in the Waking World have begun funnelling into the Dream Sphere and causing all manner of problems here and there. Torments and Nightmares won't hunt themselves so be sure to properly scout out all the available locations of the Dream Sphere you can access just in case - maybe you'll find a new teammate to work with while you're out there!

In particular, it looks like trouble can be found...

⧖ At Fury Peak, things are NOT cool and chill!!! You'd hope that the downpour from above might have cooled things down just a little but instead, we appear to be dealing with a sauna situation. Every time raindrops strike the superheated rock of the mountains and volcano, they turn into a thick steam that has coalesced into fog and turned navigating the place into a real task, even for a fully prepared Dreamer. To make matters worse, a group of particularly aggressive Torments made out of volcano glass and black rock are gathering and ganging up on any Dreamer they see. Torments at Fury Peak are even more foul tempered than usual and they're hitting especially hard today so you better act fast and deal with them ASAP!

⧖ In the Vale of Sorrow, all this rain is having a bizarre effect on the scenery around you. It's always damp and dismal here but with the new torrents of rain refusing to let up, it looks like the place is at serious risk of flooding! While the water seems like it might remain ankle deep, if you stay too long then you run the risk of an out-of-nowhere tidal wave crashing over you and knocking your feet out from under you... and the nasty Torments lurking and swimming under the waves just might take the opportunity to jump you while you're down...

Yvette Goodwin | Original | Dreamer Stygian Witch

Yumemigaoka | Pride Weekend Festival

The festival had been a staple for Yvette ever since she realized her romantic interest leaned towards others of her own gender as an early teen. At first she'd been conflicted, unsure how she'd be treated, or how her parents back in America might react. But Kenji had taught her not to shy away from it, to embrace it as a core part of herself, just as she had made being a Dreamer an important part of her life. He'd supported her fully and taken her to her first Pride Festival, and it'd become a ritual for her ever since.

This year was… different, though. Rather than helping to support her and feel like she belonged, the fact that so many other Dreamers were at the festival had her weary, and slightly on guard. This was the first time she'd gone to a festival since having fully estranged herself from the Dreamer Union. What would she say if she saw someone? How strange was it to be celebrating one side of herself, when another side which she'd centered her life around for so long was something she was trying to back away from, maybe even hide?

The fact that Ai Hoshino was going to be performing put a knot in her stomach. There was the woman she was most afraid of seeing again. She was too smart, too at ease using wits and guile, and worst of all entirely too hard to hate. And yet there she was, milling about near the concert area after having picked up some snacks and a few coupons for local shops.

Another part of her chides herself; she should have talked to her manager at Remy's and suggested opening up a booth here. It'd be good for business to attend as an openly gay employee, and she might be able to pick up a few hours of extra pay in the process. It'd definitely be worth it, even if it meant wearing the uniform. Standing 5'10" before counting her shoes and with long red hair it wasn't like she didn't stick out enough already.

That just made her sigh a little again and look nervously about herself. Anyone who recognized her would be able to pick her out from virtually anywhere in the crowd. She'd have to learn to get used to it.

There was one upside though. She could see the stage easily enough all the way from the back.

Yumemigaoka | Remy's Family Restaurant

It had been a busy day and a hectic rush at the restaurant but things were just starting to slow down. The waiters and waitresses were hurrying along taking orders and clearing tables, while a steady hum of voices could be heard as people at the various tables and booths talked to one another.

Despite seeming busy it wasn't very long before the waitress assigned to the section you were seated arrives, offering a warm and genuine smile. "Welcome to Remy's, where the comfort and satisfaction of your family is our top priority. Our specials tonight are Hamburg steak, Fightin' Fresh Fish Fingers, and as always Yumemigaoka's favorite 'home cooked' curry. I can take your order now if you're ready, or perhaps you'd like to start with a drink?"

This waitress was somewhat well known, but an oddity for those that didn't eat at Remy's often. She had bright red hair pulled into a long ponytail while she worked and towered over most of her coworkers at nearly six feet tall in her uniform standard heels. Despite clearly being a foreigner she spoke in fluent Japanese with only the faintest American accent detectable.

Dream Sphere | Fury Peak

Maybe coming here was a bad idea. The rain made the obsidian wet and hard to keep one's footing, never mind the steam that continually rose up from it. Even worse was the fact that the Torments themselves seemed particularly enraged, charging down any Dreamer they seemed to take notice of, making engaging them one or a few at a time difficult.

Still, despite the fact that the fight had been difficult the numbers were thinning, and the Hunt was coming to an end. It wasn't yet safe enough to lower your guard, but it still shouldn't be too much longer before enough Torments are taken care of to consider it a success and once more relatively safe, if still uncomfortable from the heat and humidity.

That's when what appears like a mirage is first seen, a figure of indistinct black hidden between curtains of steam. Its form is humanoid though, not like these Torments you've been fighting. At first it might look like one of the Dreamers you came with to fight, but as they get closer it becomes clear it's someone else.

A black dress. A large pointed hat. Long wavy black hair, and a Sandglass parasol that cast a deep, inky shadow over her features, with strange, jittering black irises.

She stands at the edge of a cliff, holding her parasol neatly with two hands, what rain makes it past the lacy tool dripping instead off her wide brimmed hat. Her strange gaze cast down upon you and your fight, a calm expression with a slight frown showing.

Behind her the Torment rears, a series of obsidian spikes forming along its back, shooting forward towards her as it lands. The slightest flick of her eyes to the side and she smoothly waves her parasol towards the flying rocks.

"Thou dost assail me when thou should not
From such as thee dread I shall naught."

Completing the swing of the parasol she settles it neatly once more upon her shoulder, the shards of obsidian gone, flying past her instead as a great number of black rose petals.

The Torment charges her and she holds out one leg, falling forward over the edge of the cliff. When it lands rather continuing to tumble she merely takes a second step forward, her short heels holding firmly against the vertical face of rock as the Torment sails overhead and tumbles down, crashing apart. She continues a slow, casual walk down the cliff, that strange shadow of hers cast upon its face as if the sun were low in the sky at dawn or dusk.

As she walks she continues to watch you and your own fight, eventually reaching the bottom of the cliff and stepping neatly to the ground from the cliff face, walking with equal ease over the slick, uneven and rocky ground.

"Strange Dreamer before me hence
You seem to have lost your friends.
I stand here now to test your defense.
For this attack I make no make no amends."

Somewhat battered, the Torment that's been pursuing her picks itself back up and begins charging her again. This time she holds her parasol towards it and chants.

"That which charges me with long stride
O'er here come and stand beside
I bind you now by guile and pride
My will is strong, can't be denied
Control you now feel deep inside
So fight you now will on my side."

The Torment seems to flinch, only to dig into the ground and come to a screeching halt, barely keeping from crashing into the Dreamer, who raises her parasol while releasing it with one hand to reach down and stroke the stony body of the Torment.

Then with merely a gesture she motions towards you and the Torment turns to face you, clawing at the ground before charging with all the fervor it had once been chasing her.

pride weekend prompt!

[ somebody mistook Yvette's hesitation for having a completely wrong source. ]

Hey, kiddo. This your first one? It's okay to be nervous! Everybody's been there.

[ Novvy's in his sharpest, today-- which is saying something, from a man who puts whatever he can spare from more important things into keeping a neat presentation. He could pass as going to a formal party after this, in this getup; tuxedo vest, pressed collar, who the hell owns spats? -- but for the trans flag bowtie, similarly-patterned star-shaped cufflinks. ]

[ Don't sell yourself short Novvy, anyone who'd throw shade for the bowtie and cufflinks during Pride Month probably wouldn't last very long at a formal party anyway. ]

Hmm? Oh, thanks. It's not my first. Is it that obvious I'm nervous, though?

[ Yvette offers a small, slightly rueful smile that shows her embarrassment at being figured out so easily. ]

Actually, I'm mostly worried about bumping into some old acquaintances. Things have been... tense, and the chances I''d find them here is pretty high. I'm sure you know how it is; it's a small world, and circles like these run together.

Remy's

Here's this weirdo dining alone(?) at the family restaurant, a rather cute bag sitting next to him in the booth for company instead. He looks a little... simultaneously over and underdressed, for a place like this. He flips his menu to the drinks when she's walking up, something apparently already in mind.

"Yes, hi~. Sorry, I'm still thinking about the meal, but I'd just like some water. A coffee for my friend on the way, though-- no rush, he's a bit of a laggard."

Whether or not it's strange for a single person showing up to eat alone Kuja still gets the same service and smile as anyone else. "Oh, that's alright! I'll be ready to take your order whenever you are. Would you like a slice of lemon to go with your water?" Don't worry, the bit of lemon to spruce up the water isn't going to show up as a ridiculous charge on the bill. Remy's tends to serve locals more than tourists.

Regardless of the answer she'll give another smile before heading off at a brisk pace. As much as her height causes her to stick out whenever it's busy she thanks her good luck at having long legs and being able to move as quick as is safe without truly rushing.

She returns a minute or so later with a glass in one hand, with or without a lemon slice neatly attached to the rim, and a pitcher in the other. She stops at a couple of tables along the way to fill up low or empty water glasses, setting the glass down and neatly filling it with the pitcher, making sure to get some ice in it without filling the glass with cubes. "Here's your water," she notes in a chipper tone, "We'll have your friend's coffee over as soon as they arrive so it'll be nice and piping hot for them."

The proof that the crowd is dying down and the rush is over shows as she takes a pointed glass towards the bag sitting next to Kuja, "That's a nice bag; did you find it in a local shop?"

"Thanks much." He's quick to down some-- summertime, and all-- a tiny little spot of purple left on the glass's rim. His eyes light up while he's still not quite able to answer yet, mid-sip.

It's a pure white ita-bag in the shape of a heart, two puffy, shiny angel wings jutting out to its sides. The accenting metal of the buckles and zipper are a gleaming gold, whilst the face of the bag is a soft lavender... and curiously, void of all decor. The point is to fill the slot up with those bags, isn't it...?

Despite the color being so immaculate, there are subtle signs of wear that mark it as not-quite brand new.

"This old thing? Hmhmhm~. It was the last one. Don't know if the place is even still standing, but I'm sure you can find look-alikes around... but I really like how they did these, don't you?"

He pulls the bag into his lap, and manually flaps its wings, one in each hand. There's lavender stitching, on closer examination, marching in little lines to further a suggestion of feathers.

Yvette looks mildly surprised at the news that the bag isn't new, leaning in slightly when the bag is picked up to get a better look. "That is well done, and so cute too; I especially like the stitching there. I can tell whoever made it did it as a labor of love." She gazes at it for a few moments more, eyes inevitably drawn to the wide open display pouch, with the glossy plastic reflecting the overhead lights.

For a moment she looks to Kuja, then back to the bag, before straightening back up and smiling some more. In a different situation she might inquire about the lack of decoration, but it isn't a waitress' place to point out an abnormality to a customer.

"Mmm. It's tempting to look, but I have a feeling a replica would start coming apart at the seams before yours ever needs serious repair work." It's a complex design, especially those flapping wings.

"Hm, hm~. Well, you can't beat proper craftsmanship when it comes to longevity."

He deposits it back in its "seat" beside him.

"But my, you seem like you've got taste! I must confess, I'm at a loss..." He sinks into a exaggerated pout, tapping his long, sharpened-to-points nails on the closed menu. It's in the exact same spot he left it when she went for the water. "Absolutely nothing is jumping out at me today on the menu! But here comes you, with your discerning eye, in my moment of need."

"It's always a shame to see something you thought was nice fall apart. I've heard people say the key to beauty is its transience, but I think I'll stick to craftsmanship myself when I can find it." Which means she'll stick to admiring the bag.

It's back to work mode afterwards though and she hums thoughtfully. "Hmm. Our curry is a very down to home standard recipe so if you want something that jumps out that's probably not it." She considers for another moment, shifting her weight from one leg to another, "If you want to be indulgent the chicken fried steak is a cut above the hamburg, and you can never go wrong with our karaage." Realizing she's given to offerings of pan fried food she also notes, "Our western guests have told me our caesar salads are very authentic. That's what I usually recommend if someone is looking for something lighter."
