Welcome to Beautiful Dreamer's very first AU/CR Plotting Meme! This first version is going up in advance of the game itself to give potential applicants the opportunity to feel out how they want to play their AUs as well as shopping around for pre-game CR and potentially some CR castmates...??? Perish the thought!
During future app rounds, the AU and CR Plotting memes will be split in two in order for new players to have a bit of breathing room in workshopping their CR but in this pre-game stretch while we're all chewing on the bars of our collective cage you get a two for one deal!
Don't feel as though you have to be 100% beholden to anything you brainstorm here – ultimately this is just to get ideas flowing and to help prebake some character connections before entry into the game. Feel free to also take a look around the FAQ pages or tag about on the TDM before posting here and generate some ideas that way!

Character Name: Surge the Tenrec | Åshild Starline Canon: Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW)
About: Adopted at a young age by Dr. Oliver Starline out of the goodness of his hearAHAHAHAHAHAHA, no, Starline is a piece of shit in all continuities. This overly posh doctor of psychiatry had Theories about Dreamers and Awakening, and he adopted the legally renamed Ashild and Kristoff in order to have a pair of readily available test subjects. Which resulted in a whole lot of pressure to perform, impossibly high standards, and a lot of emotional neglect and gaslighting. We're not going into detail! It's not great, is the point.
The worst part is it kind of worked? All that anger and emotional pain makes for some tasty Nightmare bait at night, an Awakening was narratively inevitable unless someone's massively misunderstood how things work.
The aftermath similarly didn't go well! Lots of explosions, metaphorically and possibly literally. ...She finally snapped and went apeshit on her abuser, is what we're saying. Keeping it vague on the off chance anyone apps in Kit or Starline.
In more everyday terms, Ashild is an insanely competitive jock teenager. A sore loser and a braggart, but with the chops to back it up (usually) and not above playing dirty to try scraping out a win. More than a little delinquent, especially now that she's lacking in parental authority figures and is more or less off the chain.
She has a complicated relationship with being a Dreamer; because on the one hand, That Backstory, and on the other hand, it's free super powers and the chance to Be The Best at beating up monsters, which is objectively one of the coolest things to be The Best at.
She has a consistent second place rank on most of the games in Pegasus Arcade. She doesn't know who the one consistently beating her out for first is, but if she ever finds out it's on sight.
Short Term & Long Term Plans: Short term, probably a lot of one-sided rivalries or unwilling friendships? Having to learn to be a Team Player, it's going to be rough.
Long term could go a few directions, she could actively improve and maybe get something resembling therapy, she could go more along the lines of canon and decide to rebel against the system and just burn it all down. It'll be pretty heavily dependent on how things go.
Desired CR/AU Castmates: -Dr. Starline and Kit would be amazing, and I'd be willing to do heavy revision on the AU backstory given everything, that would be a lot to push onto another PC -Sonic would be amazing? But also it's most on brand if Sonic has no idea who Surge is at the start
it's possible that ashild is aware of ricky via their dads having a mutual awareness but ricky is definitely not similarly aware of ashild (yet) so that could get entertainingly awkward
Honestly the more of her starting CR is somehow one-sided the more on-brand it feels. They've definitely vied for the top spots on a bunch of shooting games, I think.

Also yes their dads absolutely crossed paths professionally, and probably had arguments via research paper citations.
Frill has 100% had to repeatedly discipline Ash for being an asshole online. She was probably also in a pretty good position to get an idea of how shitty Ashild's home life really was, depending on how closely she monitored the entire forum.
she doesn't tempban ash or anything when she misbehaves, she just makes her posts all appear in an eye-searing pink cursive font with a glitter effect over it, which is punishment in of itself
I feel like this starts as one of those relationships where no one can quite tell if they like or hate each other. Constant competition and trying to screw with each other but also a weirdly united front against anyone they mutually find annoying.
This would take like 5000 years to set up and pay off because of who they are as people but these two are both Intensely Competitive Must Be The Best Argumentative Shitlords due to intense pressure to perform put on them by their abusive fathers and I think it would be very cash money for Ford to go 'I see myself in this fucked up child', potentially as a mentor?
Therapy is the best when it happens accidentally because you both have similar issues and get tricked by the narrative into talking about them
