Introduction: HI AGAIN. I kind of lost steam with Koharu (a lot happened in May that killed my drive with her, but not this game). I thought maybe picking an older character would give me a different niche to fill SO.
Character Name: Miyako Saitou
Canon: Oshi No Ko
About:
-- Teen Dreamer who was a nobody and never left an impact
-- Fought a really powerful Nightmare at 16, lost most of her memories and was disconnected from her life and loved ones after. Vows never to go back into the Dream Sphere.
-- Failed out of uni, worked at a hostess club trying to make ends meet. Met a guy named Ichigo Saitou who happened to be the owner of a talent management agency, Strawberry Productions.
-- Eventually dates and marries Saitou and is introduced to his main Idol Group, B-Komachi and their star, Ai Hoshino.
-- Ends up being Ai's mother figure and nanny for her twins despite being pretty young still herself.
-- Ai moves away, their family kind of falls apart, Miyako is wondering wtf to do with her life.
-- Ends up having to separate from Ichigo to find herself, starts her own talent management agency (Web of Dreams/Yume no Ami, Inc.) focused on internet celebs and influencers, majority of them being Dreamers.
-- Moves to Yumemigaoka because most of her clients live her and reconnects with Ai. Tells herself she's happy and ignoring the pull of being a Dreamer again.
Short Term & Long Term Plans: My plans are to have Miyako being a stable figure on the Waking World side of things, but to eventually have to acknowledge she's still hiding from the trauma of her failed mess of being a Dreamer in her youth. She tells herself her past doesn't matterbecause she doesn't have one thanks canon, but really it's her avoiding the trauma of thinking she could disappear into nothing and no one would miss her or even notice she was gone. She has mostly worked through a lot of her issues, but this is something she still has locked down and refuses to work through.
Desired CR/AU Castmates: I really would love for Miyako to be a mentor or maternal figure to people figuring themselves out because she's been through it herself. Anyone interested in being signed to her talent agency, or who can be outsourced to work with Web of Dreams, Inc., I would love that. She is here to make you go viral. Also would love for her to have CR with older Dreamers since that COULD have been her (or could still be her) had she not renounced being one. (And god if we could ever get a Saitou, I would do so many things and adjust her AU as needed because YES PLEASE).

also he may have done a bad thing as a kid and dropped off his little brother with randos somewhere in this city when he was supposed to be watching him years and years ago but don't. Don't worry about it. He's probably thriving out there.
Layer 2 is who his family is, aka an offscreen underworld crime dynasty he wants to take over and change dramatically except Shakespeare is so much funner than killing people or whatever. Has definitely shot someone before and would prefer not to again.

I'm excited to have Miyako over here insisting she respects how much Ai has grown and that she's an Adult, while also just momming her without even noticing she's doing it sometimes because it's just Familiar. Ai's a woman who can take care of herself, but also did you remember to eat this morning before you ran out the door saving the world Ai, she brought extra breakfast smoothies don't ask her why it's in a separate thermos :|

Introduction: Hello! I may have just gotten Sachiko, but here I am with another character idea that kind of wouldn't get out of my head.
Character Name: Evette Goodwin

About:
Yvette is a character about dealing (or not dealing) with loss. She moved from America to Japan when she was only 11 in order to be trained by a Dreamer named Kenji, who became her legal guardian and Mentor. This all went very well until she was 16, when they with a full Unit of experienced Dreamers fought an especially terrifying Nightmare. Everyone ended up getting booted from the Dream Sphere, but Kenji didn't reappear until days later, and when he had he'd lost all of his memories since the time of his Awakening.
He cuts all ties with the Dreamer Union except Yvette herself, though not remembering her the relationship is effectively gone as nearly every connection they had is gone. This leaves a heavy emotional wound on Yvette that reopens every time she goes to see him, something she doesn't have the heart to stop doing despite knowing how much it's hurting her.
Feeling that the Dreamer Union's methods leaves young Dreamers woefully unprepared for the dangers and potential downsides that fighting in the Dream Sphere can cause, she begins proposing stricter, harsher training methods of a more militarized nature. Others aren't very receptive, and when she asks to be placed with a new Novice herself she's turned down, as those in charge realize she's in no emotional state to handle it.
She takes this personally and slowly distances herself from the DU, and eventually stops showing up to the Union or any Union events entirely.
Reappearing in the Dream Sphere with a new look and attitude, she begins directly attacking Novice Dreamers with the intent of forcing them to grow stronger through adversity, but keeps her reasons to herself, figuring that her goals will be best met if she's misunderstood and considered a villain.
Yvette has effectively already gone through a full character arc, having started out as a cheerful young Dreamer just having fun and enjoying the wonders of the Dream Sphere as Dreamer Little Witch, becoming an Experienced Dreamer and Mentoring new Dreamers herself, to slowly starting to take on a leadership role.
Then her world gets turned upside down and she starts questioning everything she knows, having a severe crisis of faith and turning against the people she once considered her consummate friends and allies. Still, even though she remakes her own image as Dreamer Stygian Witch and begins attacking those very former friends and allies, her heart is in the right place, even if she does her best not to let anyone realize it.
Short Term & Long Term Plans:
My short term plans are for Yvette to attack Dreamers and cause a lot of confusion as to why anyone would ever consider doing such a thing. By simply putting questions like 'Why would a Dreamer ever attack another Dreamer? Aren't we all on the same side fighting Torments and Nightmares?' into people's minds she's already partially achieving her goals of toughening people up and helping them realize that despite being a wondrous dream world, the Dream Sphere can be a dangerous place with real world consequences.
Interfacing with other non or former DU aligned Dreamers is also an interest, and I definitely plan on having her post on the Frillnet! Likewise getting in contact with other people who've run into problems because of Dream Sphere related memory loss could be interesting, which also leads into the long term plans!
Which… are honestly kind of vague! Because it's honestly going to depend a lot on the kinds of people she ends up interacting with. I could see her both leaning into her villainous persona more and more, or going on some kind of redemption arc as she realizes people aren't as against her as she thinks.
Desired CR/AU Castmates: (This is the big one! If you're looking for particular prebaked CR or have some particularly important roles in your AU you'd like to fill, pitch them here!)
There are so many good ideas I have for CRs! Given her past, almost anyone who's been in the DU for any amount of time could potentially know her and her history. Her old mentor Kenji would have been a well known and beloved member himself, with Yvette having been his most promising pupil, so anyone who wants to have known and interacted with him would be great.
Other Dreamers who had been mentored by him would be an obvious strong connection, as they'd likely feel his loss just as much. His style of Mentoring was very casual, friendly, and playful. He taught people to treat fighting Torments more like a game, to be creative and imaginative with their skills and abilities.
Yvette too was a Mentor and it'd be awesome to have someone she'd trained around as well. It'd likely be very conflicting for her to see them again, especially if it meant having to fight them, or someone they were training.
Rivals in general are also sought after; after all this kind of concept doesn't work very well if there isn't someone around who wants to be menaced by a spooky Witch!
She didn't/can't get an official Novice to train from the DU, but she could absolutely unofficially take a Novice under her wing, and try to teach them with her newer, stricter ideas. Anyone gloomy or gothy, or that simply has a grudge against the Dreamer Union might work well!
And last but not least, interesting Waking World connections! She's very Dream Sphere focused, but Yvette is a heartbroken American girl that just graduated high school and is trying to start a new life as a young adult. She's 5'10" and sticks out like a sore thumb with bright red hair. At least her accent is mostly gone by now! She also works as a waitress at Remy's, a family restaurant in Asagi, which is how she supports herself.

Someone who has Dreams but no idea how to go about it and needs someone to point him in the right direction, why this isn't familiar at all.

There's some interesting overlap here with Yvette. She had a slightly similar beginning. Awakened at 10, and had a very nasty Nightmare encounter at 16. Only it wasn't her that lost her memories, but her Mentor. Said Mentor would also have been around when Miyako was an active Dreamer, starting out around 20 years ago or so.
It would definitely be interesting for Miyako to try to act as a small m mentor or maternal figure to her. She... actually would not have had a strong maternal figure since she moved away from home at 11. Given they both have trauma from Memory Issues, and Yvette is very clearly Hurting And Not Dealing With it, it could be a thing!

This is definitely an interesting parallel since what Yvette went through is what Miyako's family went through unsure how to deal with her amnesia and the way she couldn't connect to them anymore. She's the one who left and cut everyone off and tried to figure out herself without them around because it was too hard. And she lost her memories of before being a Dreamer while she remembers her time as a Dreamer more clearly than anything else.
It isn't something she talks about as she hides the fact she's a Dreamer, but those Vibes bleed through. She'd want to keep someone like Yvette under her wing so she's looked after properly and just have someone to talk to if she needed.

Yeah, the memory loss is almost like an inverse or mirror. Kenji lost everything after awakening, so he's suddenly a 34 year old man with the memories of his 16 or 17 year old self, who had this epic adventurous life he no longer has any connection with, which was also his career. And he decided to walk away from everything. The only reason he keeps contact with Yvette is because he was her legal guardian.
Oh right, and his non-Dreamer younger sister was always jealous of Yvette because she got to be his Dream Sphere play partner and naturally blames her for his injury.
Needless to say, having someone to talk with would be extremely helpful.

ON THE SUBJECT OF ART, do you know about Picrew? Dreamwidth as a whole is FULL of incredibly talented artists who you should absolutely commission if possible, but in the meantime I like finding a picrew that lets me change the character's expression and then cropping a bunch of those for icons. You can see an example here; I think Novvy's account has some picrew icons too. (I've also used the phone app Custom Cast to create a character and then pose them with different expressions for 3D icons.)

I have not! And yeah, I'd totally be down for commissioning someone assuming I actually get the character approved. (Ask me about shelling out $300 for a full body commission a year before a game opened and I only ended up playing there a month...)
I can technically use Charat to give Sachiko some more expressions if I want, I'm guessing Picrew stuff is going to be similar paper doll things, but with various artist's styles? Seems interesting! I could probably easily get some for Yvette. ...her Dreamer form though? Oh god it's crazy I doubt I could find specific enough things for it.
Edit: The fun thing about this is that Jeanette wanting to make -an army- of Dreamers is... extremely what Yvette was suggesting, just put much more eloquently. It's more direct than even she was thinking. So on the one hand, their thoughts would coincide very well!

Introduction: Hello! I'm Ley; just a general happy RPer that has way too long tags! I'm right in the middle of moving apartments right now, so the chances of me apping soon are slim, but if it's not this round, I'll probably app next round!
Character Name: Cadeyrn Blackthorn

About: I still have to bash my AU into some form of coherence, but here are the big lines.
It's implied that Cadeyrn ran away from home; though it'll be hard to extract this out of him. He's more than old enough to manage, and his running away was less to do with cutting out people from his life than taking Firefly out of that lion's den.
Their mother Seraphina absolutely uses Dreams and Nightmares to further her own goals back home, and Cadeyrn was never able to prove or disprove it, or how she goes about it. The tipping point came when his little sister Firefly awoke as a Dreamer at just six years old and he just-- wants nothing to do with his family over there anymore.
Bringing Firefly over to Yumemikaoga seemed the strongest way to protect her from any further unfortunate Nightmare, and she now attends the Promised Morning academy. Acting as her support and parental figure, Cadeyrn is pretty familiar with the Dreamer Union and is personally scouting to find a mentor for Firefly. He does not stop her from reaching for the Dream Sphere, but he will prepare her as best he can, even if he himself cannot enter it.
Meanwhile, Cadeyrn himself is a university student, mainly focused into medical and law fields. He once was aiming to become a forensic investigator; but he's now starting to wonder about the effects of the Dream Sphere onto the Waking world.
People don't always die in the Dream Sphere, at least not permanently, but if they are stuck into a nightmare, over and over again; how would that affect their Waking World? Dreamers who often crossed his path at the Dreamer Union are also an option, across all age ranges. Cadeyrn often checks in on younger Dreamers, just to make sure they're good, and to gift them with freshly baked sweets when they're having a rough time.
Next door neighbors in Koubai often end up being gifted with spare sweets as well. If his venture into forensic investigation doesn't pan out, Cadeyrn could open a sweets shop, and it would be a hit for sure! (Cadeyrn has never even considered that option himself).
Anything Else?: Just to make it clear; Firefly is not going to be 'on screen' all that much. There can be mentions of her; there can be rare occasions where she's playing nearby, but Cadeyrn is the character I'm actually using. If there's a scene between a character and Firefly specifically, it'll likely be handwaved.

About: I still have to bash my AU into some form of coherence, but here are the big lines.
It's implied that Cadeyrn ran away from home; though it'll be hard to extract this out of him. He's more than old enough to manage, and his running away was less to do with cutting out people from his life than taking Firefly out of that lion's den.
Their mother Seraphina absolutely uses Dreams and Nightmares to further her own goals back home, and Cadeyrn was never able to prove or disprove it, or how she goes about it. The tipping point came when his little sister Firefly awoke as a Dreamer at just six years old and he just-- wants nothing to do with his family over there anymore.
Bringing Firefly over to Yumemikaoga seemed the strongest way to protect her from any further unfortunate Nightmare, and she now attends the Promised Morning academy. Acting as her support and parental figure, Cadeyrn is pretty familiar with the Dreamer Union and is personally scouting to find a mentor for Firefly. He does not stop her from reaching for the Dream Sphere, but he will prepare her as best he can, even if he himself cannot enter it.
Meanwhile, Cadeyrn himself is a university student, mainly focused into medical and law fields. He once was aiming to become a forensic investigator; but he's now starting to wonder about the effects of the Dream Sphere onto the Waking world.

so IMMEDIATE thought looking thru this comment is that I think Yvette and Ryoko could be really interesting to bounce off each other. Ryoko's situation is basically the ultimate bad end version of what happened to Kenji, where she just deadass does not have any memories from before her Awakening because the Nightmare that attacked her completely consumed all of them. She's pissed at the DU and Dreamers in general but is choosing to work with them for her own reasons.
There's definitely ways Yvette could find out about Ryoko's situation and I think that could lead to a really fun clash of ideals or at least a question of "wtf why do you work with them when they did you so dirty" on Yvette's part

School frenemies would be a DELIGHT. Kuja is terrible at making friends, anyway, but favorite persons-to-fuss-with are MUCH easier

This sounds super interesting! I kind of wonder about when all this happened for Ryoko; the Kenji thing happened somewhere between a year and a half to two years ago for Yvette.
I really like the idea that there are more people around with the same kinds of issues, coming at it from different angles and with differing levels of severity.
Also! Depending on the powers I get and how fast I progress them, since Ryoko is still a Dreamer ~technically~ Yvette may be able to help her. Or try to. One of her possible powers is going to be something that lets her read someone's thoughts, and then memories. You totally love to be a guinea pig for having someone try to use mind reading to try to dig up old memories, right!?

Cadeyrn and Lisa can be giving-sweets-to-Dreamers buddies, sob. She bakes (and is learning other things), and in particular she tends to stress bake when either her civilian life or her Dreaming life are going to hell. Both haven't happened at the same time yet, mercifully.

Lisa is in her senior year at the high school (and has been a latchkey kid for a while) so she probably won't see her there, and she's not quite old enough to see him until she starts college visits here shortly, although she also lives in an apartment in Koubai where she could see one or the other around! Lisa is absolutely the sort that Stygian Witch would be trying to "help" - she's visibly flailing all over everything, even with an increasing amount of over-the-table support and training. She'll get there, but it may take a bit longer yet, and once she understands why she'd probably appreciate impromptu combat training; in the moment she'd complain loudly and attempt a Friendship Speech at least once, but still put effort in.

Character Name: “The Warrior of Light” (a.k.a. Yuzuruha Shikibu)
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
About: Known as Dreamer Of Light (yes the Of is part of the name) in the Dreamsphere, Yuzu is a woman in her mid/late 20’s who lost pretty much all her memories 5 years ago. Things she knows for sure is that she was orphaned at a very young age and that she was already a Dreamer before she lost her memory (though called by another name she can’t remember). She tends to be a woman of little words, but has a very strong wanderlust, love of adventure, and a desire to help people and do what’s right. After not having any idea where “home” even was or any records of WHO she was, she somehow ended up in Yumemigaoka and became a part of the Dreamer Union.
As for Yuzu’s life prior to losing her memories, I do have a lot in mind for that but it involves a big spoiler for Shadowbringers that subsequently spoils stuff that came after that expac too so I’m hesitant to bring it up on a plotting post without better spoiler tags. Though like… honestly just me saying that probably clues the people who know exactly into what I’m putting down, so I’ll just leave it at that for now. Either way I’m not TOO interested in fleshing that part out without the actual relevant canonmates being involved (and I don’t really want to replace those characters with other characters either just in case) - everything after the memory loss though is fair game.
I also had a thought about her being a ward under a BD version of the Fortemps after her memory loss bc I have a lot of feelings about the Fortemps family and in particular Haurchefant’s impact on the WoL in canon but I am hesitant to put any of that in stone on the very slim chance someone wants to app him (I am super not expecting canon mates but you really never know). The other ones I can be a lot more vague about but I worry that one would be a little too specific.

I would love a group that’s similar to the Scions of the Seventh Dawn in canon (the WoL’s closest comrades who are basically family) though I don’t have anything super concrete in mind for wants there. I can also see her working all over the place at various odd jobs bc keeping in the spirit of the WoL being able to pick up a fuck ton of combat and crafting jobs, I characterize Yuzu as a jack of all trades who will give anything a shot, as well as highly valuing financial security bc of the orphan background I gave her.
I also have like… again, realistically no hopes of getting any FFXIV cast mates, but I would kill for any of the Scions or…… certain characters from her past life (again if you know you know) if just because I think there is some JUICY potential there. Again though, not getting my hopes up too high.
Anything Else?: I’m going to do my damndest to get “summon carbuncle” as one of Yuzu’s abilities even if her move set is going to be mostly dancer based bc just look at him.

This is very true! And having a guitar for a weapon would probably make her want to implore upon her the need for imagination and creativity to use her powers in a way that can be used in combat. Be prepared! Lest your betters fall and you've no choice but run scared.
